Looks like a great little notebook...very interested when it's released in the UK. I wonder if they'll refresh it with a 9xxx series mobile card in a month or two?

notebook.de hasn't answered yet. But LG told me the following: "one needs two "slots" to install the Intel Turbo Memory and just one is free "reachable". The second one isn't so if i would install it by myself i would void the guarantee..." And this is a little bit to hot for me at a 1500€ Notebook. But you can let the LG Service install Turbo Memory but that you have to pay for it, of course.
But I don't understand why you need 2 "slots" for the Turbo Memory.

    Greetings S

You don't, that's bullcrap. Typically the same slot is used for either WWAN or ITM.

Anyway, LG is crazy, didn't they just put an 8400M in the C1? That's a 10.6" tablet!

I also don't understand why they are only offering up to a T7500 in the Middle East (no Penryn), they always shaft us thinking we don't know wtf technology is by giving us the worst CPUs. The C1 STILL only has a U2500 while the Au/Ca units have U7700. WTF?

Perhaps she meant, that the free "reachable" slot is "occupied" and so one needs the other one. But what can be in there?

Most likely the 'occupied' slot has the ABG(or) N WiFi card.

I heard it was small but how does the external usb look? Does anyone have a picture? Is it proprietary?

i've seen the external superdrive in person, it's very sleek and cool. it's black, no zebra stripes like the actual laptop. all around the edges it has a white line to accentuate the buttons. Also the usb cable tucks into the superdrive at the end, so it is hidden if you're not using it. very cool.

I've been waiting for penryn to come out on the Xps 1330 for a while, and now Ive been waiting for the price to drop. But I have changed my mind. I really really want the p300 and I cant wait for it to come out in the US. I never really cared for an optical drive, but the video card is what got me with that weight and size.

If you put that link into Google it will translate it.
    http://translate.google.com/transla...www.notebookjournal.de/tests/452/1&hl=en&sa=G

The M1330 got twenty minutes better battery life in these same tests. I think the difference in battery life is to be expected. The M1330 that was tested came with with a CCFL screen and a T7300 processor.

Some mention was also made of some heat problems. They did write though that the M1330 ran hotter than the P300. I have a M1330 and it runs very cool so i am not quite sure what to make of that. Logic should tell you though that this notebook should run a little hotter than it would do if it was using a slightly less powerful graphics card.

This notebook seems like a good option if you need a quite powerful GPU in a small package and you don't mind the absence of an internal dvd drive.

    1. You can set the fan speed by pressing FN + F11: Cool, Normal and quiet. Even on cool setting it is more quiet than my old Sony SZ6 was and the XPS 1330 from a friend. In quiet mode it is warm at the bottom -> but my SZ was much warmer . . .

    2. Under full core gaming the battery works 2:15 with full brightness and all wireless on! With only Internetsurfing and half Display brightness I got 3:23 hours . . .

    Greetings, Mythbuster

My M1330 runs way too hot for MY taste, although Everest is reportng temps of 50 degrees idle, they jump to 70 quickly with just a DreamScene background in Vista Ultimate.

could someone check in the system properties for the vendor of the firewire chipset?
would that be texas instruments (ti), ricoh, lucent or another?

on lg's support site, they list only three drivers for windows xp - wireless, graphics, bluetooth. surely, xp doesn't come with optimal drivers for the rest of the components, so this seems a little half baked. hopefully, they'll provide the rest of the drivers soon.

in what form is windows xp bundled with the machine - a drive image on dvd or a regular install disk? are all drivers (for xp) supplied with the package?

i hope for more reviews to appear; seriously considering this nice little machine

hm. there clearly is a firewire port on it in this picture (labeled s-link):
    p300 right side

seems there are more differences than cpu and gpu between versions of this model? (since you own one and must know about yours..)

My Understanding of the S-Link is that it is just a USB file transfer link, cause the S-link cable the came with the machine is a USB cable. I was also confused before i realized that there were no firewire in the machine. So my DV-camera is a no go anymore.

I just got the P300 from future shop :D

    Couple of things / feedbacks:

-Excellent performance. Very fast and snappy no matter what you're doing.

-Very quiet. Much better than the Sony VAIO and Thinkpad T61 I had

-Excellent keyboard. Very nice feel to the touch and has a soft/gentle sound. (not loud at all)

Basically, to all those that are considering this machine - get it ASAP. You WON'T regret it. You will fall it LOVE with it :)

O and about the s-link, I think it's just a usb connection as well

Steberg I envy you with your T9300 I wish I had the option to get that too!! Mine is T8300

according to the text in this review, s-link is firewire. with 3 full-size usb ports already, it makes sense, too. in your system properties, is there no ieee1394 entry? me hoping that the review is right - no firewire, no buy. so who can tell me the firewire chipset vendor?

i'm guessing they call it s-link because of firewire's networking capabilities. but this should be a regular firewire port?

and what about the win xp driver situation and the supplied xp dvd?

    OK! Hi everybody...

Usualy I speak in french, so I will probably make somes mistakes...

The keyboard is very very solid and good feel toutch (better than the famous xps m1330 :p). It's like a lenovo with a LG touch...

The performances are unbeliveable for a laptop 13.3". I play Company of heroes and Opposing Fronts around 50 fps with all high graphic excepted one option.

The heat is very good under Vista. When you are playing games, it's climb up but it stay good.

It's a very very very solid construction.

The screen is good. Not too glossy, not too matte. The angles are good and brithness are good.

The fonction touch (Fn) are very very funny and let you a total control on your system ( Fan control, Bluetooth, Wirless, sound, brithness, info, ...) The interface is very clean...

The system comes with no floatware (excep 1 or two).... It's very good. You get with your notebook a recovery disk and a programm witch one you can download the lastest drivers and programs (automaticly or manualy).

I give 9/10 for this notebook.

In my life I tryed a compaq business laptop, a lenovo laptop, a xps m1330 laptop and a vaio laptop. This one (LG P300) is the best of thoses one.

Bye! And go buy it..... You will not regret ;)

thank you very much for the review.

how is the blackness of the screen? the german review said it has some hard leakage over the whole screen so that is not easy to watch a movie. could you figure out the same "problem" that black is not really there while watching a movie?

how is the heat with usual wlan surfing and battery time?

    thanks :)

To complete my lastest short review of LG P300:

    _________
    Pros:

    Good sound for a notebook
    Good touchpad (only one botton)
Good small led (on the left of the touchpad)
    A complete connection (3usb, hdmi, vga, s-link, audio (in/out), ethner, expresscard (34mm))
    Good webcam
    Very nice....
No flarware, a recovery disk, LG update programm
Standless on the back of the screen
Good battery life (3hours at 5hours)
Good control of your system with your keyboard
The screen :) High definition and clean image
    The fan control !!!
The external optical drive is perfect !!!!! Very perfect !!!!

Hello, I will not Sorry. I have kids and I dont have time...

Trust me, the screen is very good and the brithness is very good. Maybe at your german web site the notebook was not the same one or maybe their resolution was not set at the maximum....

When I watch movie (I tryed) if you set brihtness at maximum, it's perfect..

I downloaded a couple of movie trailers in 1080 res and they played perfectly on the screen - no lag, sharp & crisp. This laptop has one of the best screens.

another note about gaming...it does get pretty hot after 2-3 hours. I would recommend taking a short break periodically. It cools down really fast though.

Don't u guys think this pc is overpriced compared to a Dell XPS m1330. There is a special offer in Sweden for a Dell with same spec as this LG (beside the graphic card) for 200 Euro less and with student discount u get another 250 euro off..!

hmmm, since it seems that the lg has also a better display, better graphic accelerator and support for 2 years included: no, i do not think so.

t's kinda the "same" deal depending on what you are looking for. internal drive=more weight, external drive=less weight.

would one of the owners be so kind to check for the firewire ("s-link") controller's vendor in the system properties? please :) it only takes two minutes - this info is vital for compatibility with my firewire audio interfaces.

You know, I first read about the release of this lappy on Gizmodo ( http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/laptops/...acklit-screen-usual-product-ninjas-329565.php) the day it was posted, but I didn't pay much attention to it until recently when I decided that I want to get a laptop. First I looked at the m1330, then the m1530 with WSXGA+ resolution because I like high rez screens. But now that I look at this, I don't want ANYTHING else.

However, I probably won't be getting a laptop anytime soon cuz I've got no money =(.

Hopefully when I DO buy a laptop, this notebook will be WAAAY better or there''ll be better notebook out. I love good looking laptops, and I don't mind paying a small to medium premium for it. I've also looked at the Macbook Pro (fully groped one at an Apple store) and I find this laptop to have MUCH better value even with the premium that it carries.

was gonna get a new laptop, looked at the macbook air, lenovo thinkpad x300, dell xps m1330, etc... and quickly realized that I only want the LG p300

not in a rush though, able to wait probably 5-7 more months... gonna pull the trigger once the price is right!

If you don't need the more powerful graphics then yes the Dell does seem like the better deal.
The LG weighs 3.6lbs without the external drive and the XPS M1330 weighs 4.1-4.2lbs with the internal dvd drive. The LG should weigh around the same weight with the external drive.
I think most people should be able to cope with the weight of either of these notebooks.
As for the screen being better on the LG that is debatable. They are both using the same resolution screen.
This is what Trusted Reviews had to say about there test model XPS M1330's display.
You do have a chance of getting a bad screen with Dell and with any notebook but if you get a good screen i doubt you will have any issue with it. I have a XPS M1330 with a Toshiba display panel and my display is perfect.
Dell also use a variety of displays they use Toshiba, LG and several others.

I think that the warranty maybe better with Dell also. You get at home warranty so will not really experience to much down time and with LG you will need to send your computer away for repairs.

Pick up and return and sending your computer away for repairs amounts to much of the same thing to me. I actually did think that they would pick up your computer anyway but with Dell you get next business day at home repairs.

In the past with other computer manufacturers when my computer has needed work done on it i have been without my computer for quite a long period of time.

The at home warranty service is one thing that attracted me to the Dell.

i think to have a discussion about which of those two ist better (for the money and perfomancewise) we still need another review. even better a review of the xps with penryn vs. lg with penryn. :)

^ lol its just difference of opinion; like how dell fan boys will trash LG fan boys and other way around.
in the end; both has its cons and its what you personally need that will make the pros in that certain laptop outweigh the cons and eventually why you choose it over the others no?

hey cheercake, could u tell me a bit more about these new m-based ultraportables? i've only just begun paying attention to notebook news lately and have no idea about upcoming chipsets/platforms/etc

    tks!

o also quick note, it seems like some of the recent lg p300 purchasers have used the dell xps m1330 before then jumped & are now happier. havent seen anyone do the opposite
