    Hello all,

I have recently purchased an LG P300 (with 4GB Ram) and am currently upgrading it to Vista 64 Ultimate. For the most part I have things working, although there are a few problems I am stuck on. I have been searching google, this forum and other forums to solve a these, but so far have not been able to resolve them. Any help or links to further information would be appreciated by this frustrated user :)

The first problem is the one I am currently most concerned with - that being I cannot get the NVIDIA graphics card to work correctly. Initially I attempted to update the drivers (using, amongst others, the site laptopvideo2go), but recieved an error message saying the setup program could not locate any compatible drivers. Further exploration showed the NVIDIA card was not showing in the device manager (under display). Has anyone else experienced this problem? I am not aware of how to get the system to correctly detect the card :(

The second and third problems may be related, that being that there are a couple of keys on the keyboard I cannot get to function correctly. This is a more trivial point, but I do like being able to press the power button to have the PC hibernate (which it did with the OEM install). So far I have not been able to find a setting for this, so am wondering if this would be related to a driver issue? I can also not get the brightness function keys or the SRS HD function key to work (I understand from reading the forum the SRS may not be solveable). I believe I have the latest drivers for this, has anyone else been able to get the brightness keys to work?

    Thanks

Sorry, skip the one about the power button, overlooked the power options when I went through it the first time :)

your problem about your gfx drivers is because they are not certified microsoft drivers you use, vista x64 has enforced driver signing and if drivers arent, they wont be loaded.

So be sure that they are when you install them, i think some of the drivers from laptop2go is... otherwise try the ones from www.lge.com first, and see if they work as intended.

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the reply, it is much appreciated.

I am not sure that this would be the problem in this case - in regards to the signed certificate, I have checked and tried both signed and unsigned drivers - furthermore it does not seem to be windows denying the installation, but a problem with the install package finding the correct hardware?

The exact langauge of the error is:

The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit.

With regards to getting a driver from lge, I have checked the site a few times, but have not been able to find a 64 bit driver - it seems LG are only providing 32 bit support?

I have of course also checked the nvidia site - using their custom beta tool that performs a system analysis I am referred to the above LG site, and custom downloading a certified driver produces the same error.

Here's the solution for your nvidia problem:
1.Download the latest drivers and extract the files to osme folder (usually it's c:\nvidia).
2.Go to the device manager and select the Standard VGA Display graphic driver (which is the reason why you cannot run the nvidia installer).
    3. Click update driver and select the manual option (second one) and then click to install for disk, and remove the "show compatible hardware" check box.
4.Now you'll be able to search for the driver in the c:\nvidia folder. You will have some ini file to select and you'll see the list of graphic GPUs. Select yours (8600) and install it. Windows will complain that the driver may not be suitable but choose to install anyway.
    5. The driver will be installed completely with all the additional nvidia utilities.

Note: the terms I'm using are not accurate since I'm not near the LG and I'm running XP on this one.

The problem is with the LG BIOS which does not report the correct GPU with Win Vista 64. Unless LG upgrade their BIOS, you will have to install the nvidia drivers manually every time. This is what I do, but it's not a real problem.

Is everything else working fine under an x64 Vista Operating system ? I mean by that the other device with the LG official drivers ? Bluetooth, SRS WOW, etc.

    Thanks !

    Any update on this?

Does anyone right now have Vista x64 running on this laptop that would like to share their experiences?

I'm running Vista x64 on my laptop since day one. The Nvidia problem was solved as I've described before. Besides, all other components on the laptop already have 64 bit drivers which can be downloaded either from LG web site or from the manufacturer web site.

Though there is no "official" support. LG also released a 64 bit version of their very nice Vista gadget that gives control over the fan, brightness, sound and more.

I have been running vista x64 without any problem. Everything but SRS HD button works fine. I didn't even encounter Nvidia driver issue as some of you have mentioned. SRS HD can not be activated or changed using the function key (fn+f8) but can be changed through the system tray icon so not a big deal. Drivers from LG website works fine but you can always get the new drivers from the respective manufactures.
If you install the synoptics driver from the LG website then you might get a pop-up every time you boot asking you to allow the synoptics to run. Downloading the latest driver directly from synoptics website solves this minor nuisance.
Let me know if you need any other info

Hi, Im currently running the 32 bit version of Home Premium. Is there any way I can upgrade to the 64 bit version? I have 4 gigs of ram but since its 32 bit, its kind of a waste. If you buy vista by itself, it usually comes with 32 and 64 bit, so i dont want to pay for something i already have. I dont know why LG did not let us choose what we wanted =( or have 64 bit already installed.

    can anyone help me out?
