I got my P300 about 7 months ago and had no need to use the web cam that comes with it until several days ago. And guess what? The Smart Cam software does not even detect that it's there. Any solution? LG's service desk wants me to rebuild my Windows completely but I don't know how to do that. I can't bring it in to them until April since I am out of the country. Anyway, what is with LG notebooks and their smart cam issues? I read so many posts about similar issues.

by any chance did you get the LG update DVD that came with your notebook?

That should install all drivers and anything else essential along with non essential items.

    Give that a try.

Or you can run windows update and hope there's an update available for you on MS's website.

In my case, the problem was in the buggy driver update for Simplo Webcam. Look for it in the device manager, probably under "USB Controllers". When you find it, restore previous driver using "Roll Back" button.

hey guys i'm having the same problem with my LGP300.

tried the LG update cd, tried the device manager (its not there at all), tried LG website (no drivers for web cam at all)

youcam does not detect, smart cam does not detect, msn live messenger does not detect either. it was working just a month or 2 ago... i did some digging found out its some version of Sonix webcam. not sure which one though so im on their site now trying to download drivers. its www.sonix.com.tw

i tried searching online for others with the same problem and i couldn't find any nor were there any solutions...

any help wld be appreciated. and i dont want to reinstall windows...

ok i fixed my own problem after repeated tries. calling LG canada does not help. those people treat you like a retard. maybe they do get many stupid calls but still its poor customer service.

anyway its not a webcam driver error in my case. somehow the Intel USB host controller was not working properly.

go to control panel> classic view > device manager > continue > expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers > go through the entire list of intel usb host controllers. i found my problem with the last intel host controller.

checking the driver will say it is up to date. you need to actually uninstall the hardware. ignore all warnings. windows has plug and play, it'll automatically reinstall it when you're done. it'll redetect and reinstall so no worries.

after that viola it works! magic. somehow something went wrong. no idea what though. probably hardware error.
