    Hi folks

I wanted to ask other P300 users how much disk space is used for Vista and supporting software and drivers.

I just did a re-install with a recovery disk and mine takes 18.4gb total (includes drivers and software default). I'm not sure if this is normal size?

Can some one confirm? (it looked as if once I did the re-install the space doubled)

    Let me know
    Thanks
    Jimmy

Delete all the shadowcopy and recovery points , it will get smaller.
Vista default disk cleanup , second tab bottom.

    hey sama

I'm not sure what shadow copies are. :(
I did disable the system restore though.

Also wanted to ask what is hibernation cleanup? that takes 1.9gb

    Thanks for posting.
    Jimmy :)

To disable hibernation; start up a cmd prompt, via window key + r, or type cmd in the vista start search bar. You must run it as administrator. In the cmd window type; "powercfg -h off"

Note, that this will disable hibernation, but will reclaim 1-4 gb of harddisk space, depending of how much ram you have.

    wow...

I read up on hibernation problem with vista before and I heard that it can be deleted or disabled accidentally through the clean up process.

I want to enable hibernation but at the same time gain that space back. Is there a way to do so?

If not I'd keep rather keep hibernation on.

    thanks for the reply
    Jimmy

Shadow copy is a file backup system to keep previous versions safe at file changes.
When you create an image ,and then change it, previous version gets saved.
Shadowcopy can take up a large space, it's 34Gb on my hdd.

    Code:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/shadowcopy.mspx
Hibernation file can be deleted but gets re created, the option is for the defragmentation.
It can't be enabled and same time not having the file.

Vista has a few more internal backup, but for a reason, we most likely won't see
os system files destroyed by file corruption like we did in xp.

General thoughts behind this is hdd-s are dirt cheap these days, on the internal
hdd only os and installed files should be kept.
Any document and media on external hdd.
