    Hi,

Very interested in buying this model but the video card of 128Mb is quite low compared to most new systems with 512 MB and even 1Gb. Was wondering if anyone can offer some insights if 128Mb will be sufficient for my use such as video editing (amateur) and some games (not hardcore gamer)?

    Please help me!!

    Thanks

The ATI x1600 is one of the best cards around. Regarding the issue of the 128MB, I think it would be more than enough for you. You can't get a better card on a 15.4 like the P1. The x1600 however comes in 2 versions 128MB dedicated and 512MB with "hyper memory" which isn't so good. I had a P1 with the x1400 and it was great for gaming, buy the LG it is a great choice.

Why is 512 MB "hyber memory" not a good one?

Because it just means the GPU uses regular system memory as an extension for its local memory. So the GPU can access a total of 512MB, but the vast majority of it is just regular system RAM, and using that means the rest of your machine will have less RAM available. Other than that, it's just *muuuch* slower than ram located on the graphics card.

hyper memory suppposedly has latency issues (read the article on the main page) HOWEVER the 512mb version comes with 256mb dedicated which actually does make a difference

That's right, the hypermemory one comes with a 256mb dedicated and will always outperform the 128mb one. If you are concerned about it, I'm pretty sure you can turn off the hypermemory with the stock drivers and I think the Omega drivers don't even enable it.

My P1 comes with 256 mb, so I'm not sure where you got your info on this.

Where did you find the store (in Canada) that sells 256 mb?

I got mine from cancomputer: http://www.cancomputer.com/index.php?sku=3860

Its funny though, on their site it says only 128mb, but in all the performance tests I have done, the card is shown as 256 mb, with 256 mb available hypermemory. I bought mine the first week they were available in Canada. Maybe LG has changed them since then and I got lucky when I purchased it.
