I think what most of us would like to see is better distribution in the US. I see your advertising like crazy when I go to the CES, but can't find your products outside of specialty audio/video storea and they of course don't have the computing equipment.

I would like to see the wifi indicator (blue lights on the top) work in linux, and the ability to purchase without windows included.

It would also be nice to have built-in bluetooth, a/b/g instead of just b/g wireless, and the option of upgrading to faster hard drives and perhaps DVD writers :)

I can't think of much else... I'm even more happy with my LM50 now than I was when I opened the box.

I agree with Brian, give us a place to test and use LG notebooks at retailers in the U.S., you guys have a great product but I don't know where to buy it or where I can take them for a "test drive".

Unfortunately we can't sell into the states because of non-compete agreements that we have signed with some of our oem partners.

Once in a while Canada does get the better part of the deal. I don't know when this will change but I will try to keep you informed.

I'm giving serious consideration for buying an LG LM40 laptop very soon to accompany my PowerBook. Some features that I think would be cool to have:

Bluetooth wireless, additional scroll button on trackpad, DVI monitor output as well as VGA, 5400 RPM hard drive option.

Also, as a business traveller, it would be nice if you could get the necessary information over to companies like Targus so that a proper tip can be offered for their universal car/airplane power adapters. If it is a standard DC plug used by other manufacturers in their devices, then it is simply a matter for them to add a reference for LG laptops to their database with the appropriate tip #. Yes, the battery has long life, but some of my travel days, especially to Asia are longer! See http://www.targus.com/ca/configurator/targus/default.asp for a sample of what I'm looking for.

just as a note, in my opinion an additional scroll button is not needed.. the touchpad supports both horizontal and vertical scrolling along the right/bottom edges, and it works perfectly.. actually is easier to scroll than with a normal mouse!

an extra scroll wheel would just add clutter and i think it might even be less usable :O

If such a feature was added, I would hope it was optional :)

As a potential first time customer considering the LG LM-50 I would say that a faster HD (7200rpm) would be the biggest upgrade. Also the 9700 gfx card would be nice.

And when does the non-compete expire so we start seeing LG in the US?

    I will be buying soon. This week I saw your units and was impressed. In doing my research, I found this site and your request for input so for what it is worth, here's what I'd like;
    1) A price that is more competitive with Dell. Today I can buy the Dell 8600 for $2,398CDN
    with a IntelĀ® PentiumĀ®M Processor 745 (1.80GHz/400MHz FSB) 15.4 WSXGA+ and 1G of memory
2)the option of not having an OS. I already own XP and don't what to pay again.

    Just add :
Widescreen 15.4 and maybe 17 vivid screen .
M11 Or better GPU with at least 128MB .

To the current quiet notebook , maybe improve the design to be more classic and you'll have a winning formula .

Also international warranty would be nice for those of us outside the US .

Hi, I have a quick question I hope anyone can answer. I don't know much about computers but I want to get more memory in my computer, I have the LG IBM LS50. I am currently living in Korea so there are not too many people for me to ask. Can I add more memory to my computer internally or will I need to get an external hardrive?
    Thanks!

Leanne, you're getting confused I think. You can either upgraded your system RAM (memory) or upgrade your hard drive. These are two separate items.

just a note, apperantly the LS50 wireless indicator works.. the difference being the LS50 uses the IPW2100 wifi card, and the LM's use the newer 2200.

Biggest difference here being that the 2100 drivers have been around longer and are considered stable, and the 2200 ones are still newish .. although they work great.

I'm hoping that once the 2200 drivers mature, the lights will work

in regards to the warranty too, I found a minor area where the plastic is not completely flush with the screen and called the guys at online electronics.. they got ahold of LG and I had a rep from LG call me at work to give me their shipping information, they have a 3 day turnaround to fix it. I haven't sent it yet because I took it on holidays with me, but I'm about to.

I was pleased by this response, since it's not even a serious defect, but they are willing to go all out to get it fixed, and fast!

Oh yeah, I second and third that suggestion... As an owner of LS50 I just bought the Targus Universal Auto/Air Power Adapter (clearance sale, real good deal) only to find that the LG laptops are not listed on the compatibility charts. Sure, there are 3 different tips that actually match the power connector of my laptop, but I'm not about to test them all myself... god knows what can happen with the wrong one. So, yeah, if you guys could work something out with Targus anytime soon, that would be great!

On the related note, where can I actually get an "official" car adapter for LG laptops?

For car adapter, you can just get a AC convertor at futureshop or whatever.. one of those ones that you plug into your ligher and it gives you a normal three prong AC plug...

Although if somebody from LG wants to answer where we can get a proper car adapter too, It would be much more convenient :)

hmm, i never thought that existed... so i can just use my regular power adapter with it? just plug it in at one end, and plug the other end into the lighter plug?

    This is for LG_MAN....

I would like to see the LM series with better screen resolution (ie SXGA on 14" pr UXGA on 15" inch)....(my Dell has SXGA on 14") The video car for LM60 or LM40 be the same as the LM50 or LM40 (if that is possible) and slot loaded DVD burner on the Express series.. Is the Lm70 upgradable in temr of GPU.
And also get rid of the glare on the LW series...

I went to the store to see the LM50 and fell in love with it . Want to get one but unsure what to go for...LM50 or LM70.

I have only one concern with the LW70.
That being the heat it gives of. I play Say Half life 2 for 20 minutes and it is up to about 58 Degree Celcius.
I am always scare dits going to over heat and only play games to a max of 1 hour.
Also when rendering with 3DS MAX it heats up alot so i sit an fan next to it lowers the heat to about 40c.

LG_Man, I'm wondering will the LG xNote be avaliable in any major retailers soon? I'll be getting the notebooks 8 months down the road and am VERY interested in the xNote. For me, I don't really feel like spending $2000+ online for a notebook and some of the stores that sells LG notebooks in Vancouver is not that convinence for me to get to.

    Hi LG_MAN

    Option 1: Blutooth as standard

Thats it, mind you im awaiting my LM 70 Express which is in customs at the moment according to my supplier. Also update the Australian website with the new models. I went looking for the LS 70 Express and had to venture to the Canadian website. Also who are the LG service agent for notebooks in NSW Australia and what is the warranty procedure.

    Cheers

Does anybody know whether you could put integrated bluetooth into LG LM70? I'm seriously thinking to buy that notebook, however, I want to have a built in bluetooth.

(I know that you can always have an USB bluetooth, but I don't want to have anything sticking out of my beautiful LM70![ :)])

Prior to purchasing an LM50, I was comparing Fujitsu, Toshiba and LG notebooks. I read all the reviews I could find on NotebookReview and the other web sites referred to in reviews posted on NotebookReview. I spent time on the Canadian web sites for Fujitsu, Toshiba and LG gathering all the tech specs I could in order to help me understand so that I could make a comparison between the three of them. The LG website was the worst for providing details on the various models of notebooks available. Everytime I spoke to a retailer about LG notebooks I got different information and especially DIFFERENT MODEL NUMBERS! I couldn't find details of the Canadian models on the LG Canada website. Finally I found them on the LG Global website - though you can hardly read the information because the print is so small.

If the website posted the same model numbers and specifications that LG supplies to its retail outlets it would make it easier for potential buyers to hold discussions with LG retailers.

While I'm on the subject of consistency. Could someone at LG make please up their minds just what they're going to call the high brightness LCD display option? The PDF files that you can download for LW60/70 models use the term "Fine Bright" while the model spec sheet on the LG Global site uses the term "Glare". "Glare" is how the LG retailers in Toronto refer to the high brightness option. Having two terms for the same feature just adds to the confusion when it comes to getting more information on a specific LG notebook model.

I also own the LG LM50 and the most I've ever gotten off the 6cell battery is roughly 4.5hrs and that's without wifi on (The only way one is capable of achieving 6.5hrs is by setting the laptop on idle). I would also like to add that LG should put more detail on there websites on what part/models they are using since they have such a vague description about it - which allows anyone to think if there using low quality equipment rather then high quality equipment as a cover up.

Nevertheless, I'll have to admit that LG designed one hell of notebook and the service is great.

Unfortunately I had to return my LM70 because it had one dead pixel... :(

On the top of that I was told that my notebook was the last LM70 in the entire country so I have to wait for the next series to come out...

Well, does any of you know what we can expect from the LM70 series in the near future? Bluetooth would be nice.... or maybe an X700 GPU... :p

    Any ideas?

    Percy,

Highpoint is the Authorised LG service agent Australia wide. In NSW, they are located at Homebush Bay. Warranty procedure involves calling the 1300 788 184 number on your warranty card and speaking to one of our IT support staff. They will troubleshoot your problem and if required log a warranty job with Highpoint.

The LG LWDBJU1 (15.4 inch screen) LOOKS great. But does anybody have any reliability or service stats on it? I'm choosing between that and a Powerbook G4. The LG screen looks much nicer, but I'm nervous about that "American car" syndrome (they look nice and last a year).

I just purchased an LW 60 and LW 70 and am trying to decide which to keep (posted a question here and only received one reply)...It would help greatly if your service number in Canada was more functional - took a week to get through, voice messaging didn't work properly, and the tech I was patched through too was rude and not at all helpful - I knew more about the product specs than he did.

Service is key - your notebooks are beautiful, and the quality seems so good, it would be great if the service here could be improved upon.

    Thanks for asking...

LG Man (or anyone else) - Since you know LGs fairly well, could you comment on the differences between the LW 60 and LW 70?? I deciding between the two - the LW 70 has a 1.86 processor c/w 100 GB, and 17" display, and the LG LW 60 has an 80 GB, 1.73 processor, and 15.4" display.

Any reply would be super. Thanks!!

I have an LG xnote LS50a
It is the basic model introduced and marketed in Canada
last year. I got the last one left of this model from London Drugs here in Vancouver, B.C.. I used it everyday and I had only one problem where a trojan horse got in last summer. I had to reinstall Windows Xp sr1 and drivers from the supplied restore disk.
I have HP's, apple powerbook and Ibooks.
    This notebook is very reliable.
I had it now for more than 2 years, and still no prolems.
    Good Luck. :centrino:
