    HI,
I have an LG LW60 and there seems to be an issue with the wireless, this may be due to configuration.
I can connect to 54Mbps access points both at home and work without problem, but the speed will then vary after connection to sometimes as low as 1Mbps. Is this a configuration problem with the Laptop or the access point. I thought that it may be due to powersaving but setting on Maximum Performance as suggested on the Intel site does not seem to work.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    :)

    Hi

this is quite interesting... ok, firstly are there buildings/walls that block you from the access points?

one thing that i have noticed is that when i had 2 computers connected thru wi-fi and when the microwave was switched on, it interfered with the connection and would disconnect me

i tink ur problem is an inteference problem, more than ur laptop problem... have u tried using an external antenna to boost ur signal ( www.cantenna.com)?

    hope this helps
    cheers

    Hi Xplodinstar,

Thanks for your suggestions. There are walls between me and my Zyxel access point at home, but not at work where we have a Netgear.

I too also thought of interference and do have a cordless phone at home but not sure if there is one at work.

Haven't tried external antennae, am also going to check with other people who have different brands of notebook at work.

    Thanks

    Hi

i defiantly know that any obstructions downgrades the speed of wi-fi dramatically...

    of topic...
my professor told us that there is now 802.11i which has a transfer rate in gigabites but they could only test it in a radius of 10m

ask ur collegues and see if they also have a problem
    pleasure to help
    cheers

    Perhaps your prof meant 802.11n?

Anyway, to the problem.. have you tried updating the wireless drivers? Specifically, get the ones from the Intel .. or whoever did your wireless card's ... website. And upgrade the firmware on both the routers if possible. If not, then try to see if it is a distance problem by looking at real time stats of the connection (using something like network stumbler) and by walking around with the laptop.

    Good luck!

    hi

maybe he was refering to 802.11n?
    anyway...
if i may ask how many users are normally connected to the access point?

    have u read this artical:
One Slow User In The Hot Spot Can Degrade Wi-Fi Performance

maybe try WiFi Speed Spray :) i know u mite be smiling, but apparently it has some really good reviews... read about it and decide for urself... i was quite amazed and shocked... i personally have not tried it. heres the link...
    http://www.spectropolis.com/speedspray/

... if u tink u r getting interference from a microwave/cordless phone(because they too also use the the same frequency spectrum) try "changing the channel on which the network(wifi) works on"

if u do fix the problem, plz let me know... i somewhat specialize in this field and would like to know how u solved it(if u can) :)
    tanx
    cheers
