    Hi All,

I see the lovely 12" LW25 on the LG Canada website ( www.lge.ca), but cannot find anyone selling yet, (milestone, canadacomputers, ncix, pccyber, etc.).

Anyone know when/if they are available and what the approximate price is?

Also, based on the LG website, it comes with only 512MB RAM. :( Does it have a free memory slot for an upgrade?

    Thanks,
    Long-time lurker, first-time poster
    JS

    Thanks a lot MilestonePC. It's a pretty good price :) . A few questions:
    1. Is there a free memory slot? Seems like there must be, but just to be sure...
    2. Do you know what the expected battery life is?
    3. The display is 1280x800, correct?

Looking forward to the first review of this baby.

Yeah - that's what I would think. How much would a standard optical drive weigh? Because one could just add that to the 3.8lbs to get a rough estimate of total weight with optical drive. My guess would be around 4.2-4.4 lbs, which would put it around the same weight as other similar notebooks.

I must say, it's a very nice looking machine.

If it's gonna be ~4lb why not get the T1 (new model?)...

It comes wit T2400 processor, 1 GB of 5300 DDR RAM, 60 GB 4200rpm HDD, integrated graphics, bluetooth, wireless, etc... PLUS, it's less than an inch thick, and about 4.1lbs, while having a 14.1" widescreen (1280X800)

So my question is... why not go with a bigger screen laptop at the sacrifice of only 0.2-0.3lbs? In addition, from what I've heard, the T1 can last up to 4hrs on batt (conservative usage) and is typically capable of 3.5hrs

Just wanted to provide another option if you haven't searched on the net yet... but if ur in US then it might be harder to get it... However, the shop I got my Asus A8Jm from carries the new T1 and might be willing to ship to the US... the current price for the T1 posted on their site is $1800 CDN

    Cheers & Good Luck

Yeah, I am debating the T1 vs LW25. Both look great. I'm a fan of portability, so I'm leaning toward the LW25 despite the following quick comparison:
    LW25 T1
    512MB 1GB
    <$1900 <$1800
    12.1" 14.1"
    ~4.0lbs ~4.2lbs
    4.9 hours* 4 hours*
    Blue/Red Piano Black
    * Battery life is difficult to ascertain/compare. The only reason I can see for better battery in LW25 is the smaller screen. Everything else is pretty much identical.

I've seen the T1 in action (loved it) and would love to take the LW25 for a test drive, but it seems to be much less common. A couple other differences are a) The LW25 DVD-RW is removable (in South Korea you can get swap in a digital media broadvcast -DMB- receiver and watch TV, cool), b) The keyboard layout on the LW25 is *wrong* according to the pictures I've seen. By wrong, I mean that the Fn button is in the lower-left corner rather than Ctrl.

    Decisions, Decisions :)

haha, yah, well 0.3lbs won't make that much of a portability difference (FYI, an orange or apple weighs about 0.4lbs... so basically u would be carrying just an orange more of weight or less...)

Plus, the added benefit of 2" on a laptop display is HUGE... even from 14.1" -> 15.4" you'll see a huge diff in screen size, which is only a 1.3" difference...

And yah, the DMB sounds cool, but since I'm in NA (Canada), I don't think they offer it... and also, there's an extra 512MB of RAM, which you can nvr go wrong with, especially since the T1's HDD is so crippled... I think extra RAM would definitely help speed up the processing...

Has anyone ever seen a review of the LW25? I cannot find a single one. In liew of an actual review, does anyone own one of these things that can give some general impressions on this model? Thanks.

Another puzzle with the LW25: The dimensions posted on the LG website (the only source I could find with dimensions) are 358.8 X 264.4 X 31.7 mm, or about 14.1" X 10.4" X 1.2". That's HUGE for a 12.1" lappy. The 14.1" T1 is smaller in all dimensions!

Along with the incorrect reported weight (2.8kg vs ~1.8 kg), I think that LG screwed up the specs; in fact, they are identical to the S1, so I think they made a copy/paste error. Anyone know what the "real" dimensions of this thing are?

    Edit: Found a source which quotes the dimensions as: 300 x 208.5 x 29.6, or 12.1" X 8.2" X 1.1", which seems pretty reasonable.
