I'm in the process right now of buying a laptop by the end of the summer, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Now right now I'm torned between buying a high end notebook or a low-end notebook. I have been looking in the high end side for the Asus A8Jm, but I'm lately thinking it might not be worth putting so much money on a laptop and might be better to get a new desktop with a basic notebook.

Now the LG K1 caught my eye, first because it was not that expensive at 1100 CAD$, second because it had a Pentium M and lastly because the screen looks to be matte. I have had no personal experience with LG and my friend told me that LG cellphones break easily. What I want to know, is if the LG K1 nicely built? Will I be able to keep using it for 3 years? I know it's a low-end notebook, but I don't want a cheap machine like a Dell.

Also can someone tell me if the K1 has another ram slot for upgrade later and if the battery can be upgraded without problem too?

Is there no comments on the subject? I really don't want to make a purchase of +1000$ without knowing more.

I don't think you know this, but the Core Duo is now out which makes the Pentium M outdated. A computer with similar specs can be purchased now with specs identical to those can be purchased for a lot less than $1000.

Really, it would be a waste of money to go for something so outdated. The A8Jm is an excellent choice, or, if you don't need to game, there's an A8JF (I believe it's F) that's also available for $300CDN less. Check www.milestonepc.com for the details.

Agree with Funk, but if you're going with an LG at the very least get an M1. If you can't afford the S1.

Hmmmm, thanks, I totally forgot about the A8F. A couple of hundreds more for something a whole lot better! So now my choices are between the A8jm and the A8f. Thanks for the replies guys! I'm going on the Asus board for the rest! :)
