My LG k1 express is completely dead. I was told by an IT technician that it is the Motherboard and that it would not be economically viable to repair it. Any suggestions.

Take it to a local electritians, they will be able to test each of the componants on the board and repair and fix it, it would porbably cost arround £40
Or look on ebay for a new board. -
Thanks for that. My question is can a "faulty" Motherboard cause the whole Laptop to go dead completely?

Yes, a faulty motherboard can cause the entire notebook to go dead. Usually, motherboard replacements cost $200-$400 depending on the manufacture, model, and age of your notebook; so in your case, the IT technician would be correct when he suggest that it wouldn't be economically to repair it.
