LG Gram 15 & 17 dlp latency

Hi! I'm looking to get Gram 15 (late 2020 model) for music production, however, I'm concerned about the DPC latency. Based on the review here - on Notebookreview - the latency on Gram 15 is pretty bad. But what confuses me is that latency for Gram 17 is great (also based on the Notebookreview), which is weird, because the internals of G15 & G17 are pretty much the same.

Can any of you please share what's the latency on your devices? Maybe LG has updated the drivers, and it's much better now... I'd really appreciate your help.

There is no Gram 15 "Late 2020" model, it is nearly one year old now. The product line itself is getting discontinued and LG is replacing it with new 2021 Gram 16, should be available for purchase a month from now.

 

Thanks for clarification, RS4. I'm fine with a 1 year old model and still would like to know the latency situation on it. Gram 16 (or other upcoming Grams) don't suit me, as they are limited to 16GB of RAM, which is a real shame.

 

Notebookcheck are very thorough with these things and they say the same thing about DPC latency, why not get the Gram 17? It is compact and light at just 1.35 KG. Review links:

Notebookcheck also mentioned that DPC is affected by driver updates, and Gram 17 was reviewed 2 months after Gram 15, so I was hoping that maybe newer drivers had an impact. And now even more time has passed, so... even more updates. Gram 17, although very light, is hard to call compact. I actually am considering it as well, but would still rather go with 15.

 

The entire Gram line of a particular year (not sure about 16 this time) uses the exact same hardware down to the heatsink and fan pretty much. I think one i5 and one i7, but the differences are minor. It might depend on what you're doing with music production. It's a 15W 4c/8t CPU, so if you're planning on having a ton of plugins and simultaneous tracks running you might hit a wall at some point.

I myself have not had any DPC latency issues, but I only typically use a couple plugins max with an Audient iD4 interface for my guitars. If you are planning on having huge projects with a large number of plugins you might need a beefier CPU. Some plugins can swallow up a ton of CPU time. One thing I had to do was uninstall Intel RST software, but that's simple and harmless.

And yes, LG is still making the 17. They added a 16 this year which I think is replacing the 15. Looking at their product pages the new models that all have 11th Gen Tiger Lake Intel CPUs are the 17, 16 and 14.
