    Hi

I have recently purchased the LG E500 SP18P and have found that the wireless (Azerus) has stopped working. I can not find it anywhere in device manager. I have also gone to the full length of rebuilding my laptop with the LG Vista CD and now it doesn't appear on Device Drivers :(

Does anyone have any idea how to get the wireless working?
    Thanks for your help...

I have the same problem. Randomly I lose my Wi-Fi connectivity and my Atheros card is not showing in the Device Manager. I just put the laptop to sleep and back on and after some secs (or forcing a HW rescan) it's back on.

This doesn't seem a HW problem so I'm reluctant to send the laptop for service (I heard it can take up to 1 month).

My guess is that something in Vista disables the device (although I have unchecked the power-off option in the driver).

Any help will be very very welcome as this is driving me nuts as well.

BTW, did you fix the problem Jonas?

No i haven't solve my problem yet. I've tried Vista and XP and it's always the same, the wireless card disapears from the device manager. I have checked all possabilities with diferent drivers and confugurations but it was useless. I will send the laptop to repair when i go on vacations. I have a friend with the same laptop and he tells me that with his laptop the problem doesn't appear, so i supose that can only be some kind of hardware problem
    What did you do already?

I haven't done anything yet. My laptop is getting worse and worse. It hangs sometimes, the network connection stalls, CPU gets to 100% for not apparent reason, etc.

I contacted LG Service about the wi-fi problem and they told me to reset the router... can you believe it? I contacted them again and told me to open a proper ticket so they can service my laptop (that I cannot afford as I need for work).

I'm going to try to install XP this weekend to see whether I have the same problems.

BTW Jonas, do you also have problems with CPU at 100%?! I use my laptop for DJing and after 2.00 hours it normally gets completely unstable and I have to reboot :( .... I'm really not sure whether this is Vista, LG or both :(

Yeah my laptop in the last days hangs too, and i have to shut him down and power on again with no aparent reason. I've tried a program called SpeedFan that can mesures the temps on the laptop and everythings seems to be normal appart for the graphic card that is at 60º, i don't know if this is normal or not. I'm on XP and the CPU usage is normal, I think the your problem with that is for the Vista because it's always using CPU, but try the task manager to see witsh aplications are at 100% of CPU usage. I am out of ideas and it seems that both of us have the same problems. I will solve my problem by seending my laptop for repair,it's the only solution.

I had similar problems as well but I think I found a solution.

    • Go into device manager and access the properties function for the Atheros SR5007EG Wireless network Adaptor
    • select Power Management
    • remove the checkmark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Seems to be working for me up to this point and would like some feedback if it in fact worked for you as well.

Never mind, just lost the wireless connection again and when I refreshed Device manager, it looses the Atheros adaptor until I reboot the computer.

Yeah. I tried that too with no luck.

Today I installed XP in dual-boot mode in my LG. Problem is exactly the same. Everything works fine but all of a sudden the device dissapears from the Device Manager. However, I must admit that the notebook runs much smoother on XP so I'm seriously thinking about staying with XP for a while.

Light-Tower: you don't need to reboot, it's faster going into standby and back (takes 15secs vs 1.3mins).

BTW, where/when did you guys buy your laptops? I bought mine in June in Spain.

I really hate the idea of sending my laptop for service (deleting files, saying it goodbye for a good month, etc.) :(

Guys, the only solution here is to send our laptops for repair. I've tryied everything. Yup Windows XP is much better for our laptops than Vista. In game performance it's from day to night the diference. By the way, i bought my laptop in Portugal.

i have had the same problems with the wirless. so i decided to borrow my friends usb wireless network adaptor to see if it was weather the wireless card or the actually computer stuffing. when i used the usb wireless it never disconnected or disappeared off device manager, so i assume all our laptops have been installed with a dodgy wireless card. i have sent the laptop off to repair. hopefully they have fixed the problem when it comes back.

Did your laptop hang in windows? I think there could be also a overheat problem with my laptop. Yeah the repair will be diferent from country for sure. I'm in Portugal. Everything else is good on the laptop. I can play recent games without any problems.

Please keep us posted about your findings. I also have similar problems with the bluetooth radio. Sometimes it doesn't appear in the device manager and I have to reboot... Pity all this problems....

I'd definitely go with XP. The game performance is easily 2x better. I get lot of weird problems with vista... Sometimes even a stupid file transfer over ethernet takes ages (if it doesn't hag). I don't even dear to DJ anymore with vista as it has let me down a couple of times.

Anyways, let us know about the turnaround time and whether they serviced the laptop OK. Seeing the number of reads I think we're not alone with this problem....

Thanks ongkid.... I always thought it had to be a SW problem (driver) but it has to be HW. Besides, if it was then they could send us a patch or something (and avoiding shipping).

BTW, how did you send the laptop? was it pre-paid shipping?

Holy sh*t! I have exactly same laptop (LG E500) and exactly same problem (CPU consumption and disappearing [after reboot though]) and it's driving me nuts! So I'm pretty sure it isn't HW failure. I have tried to update newest drivers (v7.3.1.127) and all kinds of drivers with no luck. There is no way I'm sending this to be repaired (they will do nothing to it).
So if you guys have any solutions, I will be glad to hear about them.

    Cheers.

i called LG and they organised a courier to pick up my laptop at their expense, they will be returning it through the courier also. i'm not sure this is how it is for other countries though.

if it is a software problem do you guys think it can be a BIOS problem ? cos i cant think of any other possibilities since the problem persist through in XP and vista. and is certainly not drivers since we have all tried updating them to the latest version..

    FINALLY
I found a forum with the EXACT problem.
Constantly restarting my computer. But I can't do any ol' restart. Full shut down. Then watch when i boot up again, the wireless light will come on then turn off. Then i have to hit the wireless button to turn it on while it is booting up!
I was thinking Bios aswell as i need a full reboot.
    i got the e500 - s.a8x2a - x32 - Atheros AR5007eg Wireless card
Im in Australia as well. So interested to know how you go ONGkid.

I had a LG previous to this. They should of kept with the Intel Wireless cards.
Atheros have a terrible website. No drivers to download.

    My driver is on 5.3.0.35 - 05/04/2007
LG update won't update it. Can someone point me to drivers please?

Thanks Piraccas for the 'StandBy' advice. Making life a little easier

Damn. I modded those drivers little bit more and it seemed to work fine. Then I tried to shut down the computer and turn it on again. After few minutes.. BOOM.. CPU was taking 50% of its power again. I'm depressed. Atheros sucks ass.

i just got my laptop back today.. so far everything is okay. they said the 'wireless connection problem was because of the system firewall setting'. i dont know if this is true cos that sounds dumb to me. but i will keep you posted on how my laptop is going.

it took just less than a week to be serviced.

Thanks Bec, but why are they only 5kb ?? They didn't seem to do anything.
Plus when I un-installed driver, did a reboot. The driver was still installed ! Bizarre

Hey ONGkid, did they tell you exactly what they changed. If its just a firewall setting then can't we all just fix it and be done with it ??

Windows firewall??? I would be really really surprised...

Update: 2h with Windows FW deactivated and so far no problem...

2nd Update: it eventually failed... deactivating the FW won't fix the problem.

Since this morning, up until 7pm. I used wireless with out one drop out.
I changed one thing this morning, it was this...
Device management/ Atheros **** Wireless Network Adapter/ Properties
'Advanced Tab' - Power Save Mode... Off

BUT since turning my computer on just now and going back to the properties it was on 'Normal'... Interesting...

You need to uninstall it so long, when there are no drivers anymore. Windows uses automatically old drivers.

About the links: copy the link and paste it manually to address bar. Then it should download it. Sorry I didn't notice it before...

    Dear customer:

Basically we are in charge of hardware service, any software problem, bottom line only I can do this. If you want to more detail, please contact software vendor

    Regards,

i dont even know if he speaks english properly but that is the reply i got. initially it did once again start to dc BUT it didnt disappear from device manager. i reformated everything and so far it hasnt disconnected.

BTW where did you guys find the drivers for the graphics for XP ?

    thanks

They are on the LG support page. i cannot give you a link as it is a script or something. Just just your country, model, OS, etc. and you should find them.

Let us know if the reformatting did it although not my problem for sure as it happens with XP too.

BTW, after doing troubleshooting I'm pretty sure that the problem has to be something (HW, SW) that makes the device to turn off accidentally. Reason is that restarting or coming back from SB makes the device to be on again ALWAYS. What forces it into off mode is still a mistery...

Guys, the problem here is a hardware problem. The only thing to do is to replace the motherboard. My problems are with wireless connection and sometimes computer hangs, so LG don't try to say that is a sw problem because if it so their standard sw should be suficient to install everything well, if it not they should provide some kind of software update, thing that they have never done yet, so the only thing to do is to send our laptops for repair and they should change the motherboard (or some hw **** that couses our problems). I don't have patience for LG **** talk.
I have installed both vista and XP, tried all kind of drivers and updated my Bios. Nothing changes, the problem continues.
By the way i'm a technical computers.

So are you trying to tell me. LG installed god knows how many motherboards across the world in how many different models, that were all faulty ? As much as we are all hating the LG at the moment, I find that hard to believe.
My fix has solved the problem, for me. I believe its only a matter of time before we solve the issue.
Why not replace the wireless card ?
Would it help if we distinguish what models and specs we have ? If im talking to much here let me know, I just want to find a solution for everyone that doesn't involve a motherboard replacement.

When i installed Vista i have already tryed that but the problem continues. I don't know if they made some faulty motherboards, but i have a friend with the same laptop and he doesn't have these problems. My laptop is E500 SP18P. They have the responsability to solve this and not us. Of course that we are trying to help each other and i'm here to help.

Since i've got the laptop back, the wireless still continued to disconnect but did not disappear under device manager. instead it would just say 'no wireless networks can be found.'

i have installed XP and everything seems to be fine. it has not disconnected on me once.
i'm assuming they have fixed my problem and that XP is much more suitable for our laptops rather than the troublesome vista.

@ongkid: WTF!!! This is unacceptable. Damn LG!

"No Wireless Networks can be found" is the same problem, that's actually mine. If you have that situation and go to Device Manger do a "scan for hw changes" you'll see how the card dissapears.

I really need a new Motherboard (btw, I also have problems with BT)

Try this: Disable "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." under Power Management tab in Device Manager. Do this for ALL network adapters, not just Atheros. Try to disable all other power saving options too (if exist).

edit: Aww, **** it! I give up.

    See you around.

Jonasthern: when you use your USB wireless adapter, do you disable the artheros one ? cos everytime i plug in a usb wireless adapter the laptop will just crash in both XP and VISTA. i have tried two different USB wireless adpater and the same conflict !
i usually disable the artheros wireless before i install the USB. is this the reason it crashes ?
    anyhelp would be much appreciated.

i will be sending the laptop back to service for the SECOND time soon, as soon as i can be bothered.

Does anyone have problem with Chat Programs, e.g. MSN, Trillian, AIM ???

I have already used both USB Wireless and Artheros and it worked fine with no craches, but i usually disable artheros in the hardware buton on the laptop. How is your wireless connection after the repair?

I called LG... they have asked me to send the laptop for Service. It'll take approx. 15 days and they said that they'll probably have to change the motherboard... I cannot afford to be without laptop for 15 days now so I'll send it for service later...
