    Heya gang,
I'm hoping that someone here with some PC knowledge can please be kind enough to help me, I'm desperate. :(
My Wife's Laptop has suddenly had a big issue with the screen.
On startup the screen splits into 6, and asks for a repair.
I am pretty new to all of this caper, and am trying to save myself from a divorce and our kids from a berating they will never forget...(The good wife has blamed them for doing something "stupid" on her laptop whilst she was at work).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by the screen has split into 6? Do you see the same thing 6 times, or are there now 6 sections on your screen, but only one picture showing over all of them?

I'm not sure what's happening with your laptop. But I do know there isn't anything you can do in the bios to create this problem. On second thought, there is a bios setting that has to do with your screen. There wont' be too many options, but check it's set to VGA. Other than that if this is happening before Windows boots up, it doesn't sound good.

    Thanks KrazyKong. :)
Yeah, it is doing it before Windows, so I might need a new GPU? It seems to work normal when I force a boot, but when I try to run any apps I get black screen and it just hangs there.
At first I thought it could be a loose mounting on the GPU, so I pulled the keyboard off. Everything still looks brand new, but the GPU seems to get pretty hot very quickly.
I've tried updating all the Drivers, etc, but still no joy.

I checked the BIOS and it badly needs updating (It is 2007 BIOS), but I couldn't find any links on the net for the latest LG BIOS updates.

Do you please know from where I could DL the latest BIOS for the E500?
Many thanks for your help. :)

Do you think the problem is the GPU?

klutza, look at the very first post in this LG section and you'll see the sticky about LG Bios updates. Download the latest LG BIOS CD, burn it to a CD and boot from it. From there you can flash your bios.

As for what's happening, if it's occurring the second your turn your laptop on, then I don't think it's an overheating issue. Despite how hot it gets, it still takes a little time to get up to temperature, thus it being cold when you first turn it on won't cause this problem.

All I can suggest is reformatting and reinstalling Windows. It's not going to hurt to try. Other than that, maybe taking battery out, unplug it and let it sit for a day or two. Have you contacted your nearest LG Service Center yet? It might at the end of the day, need to be sent in for repair.

there is something very wrong with some hardware, thats all I can say.
    It is probably your GPU
BUt it could be your screen cable or screen... make sure they are all connected perfectly...
