I am looking for a used netbook to replace my dying laptop. I will be using it for normal surfing, emailing n watching video, no heavy stuffs like gaming or photo editing.

I chance across LG X300 at USD$250 (8mths old) and is very attracted by it's good look.

I also came across an Acer D257 selling at UD$250 (3 months old) too and seems like it has much better specs than the LG X300 but is not as nice, or i can say it doesn't look nice! I read that the dual core N570 doesn't really improve the performace much (as compared to a single core).

I need advice from LG X300 users on it's performace (is it very sluggish?) Or users from Acer D257 on it's performace (it is much faster than single core?).

Any other non users are welcome to give any comment or advises.

    Thanks in advance

    Benefits of Acer ( http://translate.google.com/transla...cer-Aspire-One-D257-Netbook-Test-3298527.html):
Probably longer battery life (5 hours?)
Dual core CPU (could be useful depending on what kind of video you will be watching)

    Benefits of LG ( http://asia.cnet.com/product/lg-x300-atom-z550-processor-20ghz-1gb-ram-45229324.htm):
    Higher resolution screen(1,366 x 768)
    Looks nice
    SSD (but only 64 GB)
GMA 500 graphics (apparently has support for DXVA for video playback, but I wouldn't rely on it)
    Battery life only 3-4 hours?

Thanks for the reply and links.

I would have chose the LG x300 if it comes with 2GB RAM. But sadly, I can only find the 1GB version in the market and it's RAM is soldered to the mainboard, which means not upgradable! So seems like it will become obsolete in a yr's time.

I know there is a way to use USB flash drive as virtual RAM or use Readyboost to improve performance of netbook. Are these method really useful?

Or is it possible to desolder the 1GB RAM and resolder a 2GB RAM on the mainboard?

If you got the exact same model of RAM - or at least something compatible, maybe you could try but it's not realistic to do at all.

Not very useful, or at least I don't think you will find it makes much of a difference when the netbook already has an SSD.

1GB is quite doable if you are only watching videos, typing things up and going on the internet.

Thanks. U hav been very helpful. Looks like I will be going for the LG x300 for it's bigger screen n SSD.
It will be worthwhile if I can use it for another 2 yrs.
