Hello. I am in the market for a notebook computer, preferably one with a long battery life. This is why I was a little surprised at the claim that LG notebooks can get up to 6.5 hours out of a standard 6-cell battery. I was just wondering, is this really true? It sounds a little unrealistic. By the way, the notebook I was looking at was the LS50, so if anyone who has used one could post their opinion it would be most apreciated. Thanks.

Same, I'm looking at their LW60 model, and one with a pretty bright screen, 15.4" and a dedicated GPU, it stated 6.2 hours from the standard 6 cell too..

Tomorow, I'll call up LG again. Today I tried, but the lady transferred me to tech support where everyone was out for lunch, I left a message but stupid me, I asked then forgot to tell them my phone number and email haha[ :(!]

I think that sort of running time is a bit optimistic although LG models did actually run for around 6hrs but I think they were earlier models and the current ones would be more likely to run for around 4 to 4.5hrs...
My LW70 (17") runs for just under 4hrs if I am careful with screen brightness etc...

    I curently own an LS50,
With Battery Miser settings on to Max Battery and just browsing the net and maybe a few word docs. i usualy get about 4 hrs, which is quite good..... Every manufacuter state that their battery last longest, and Streching it an hr or 2, even whith mobile phones, they say 300Hrs standby thats like almost a over 10days, I'm not even sure if my mobile/cell can even last 3 day standby???[ :p]

Called up LG a few days ago, the rep told me for their newer LW Express units, the battery life will all exceed 3.5+ hours, and can easily get more with the right adjustments.

My phone says it lasts 7~ days on standby, and it only lasts 3-4 days heh.

Is the 3.5 hour runtime based on the 6 cell battery or the 9 cell battery?

My LW70 Express (6-cell battery) says itll only get 2.4hrs while at idle.
At 100% CPU use (no graphics though), that drops to 1.5hrs.

Yeah, the specs you'll see before you buy the notebook (LW60 in my case) all say 6 hours, but the user guide you'll have to find on one of the CDs or download will tell you the following: "Less than 3 hours (6-cell) or 4 hours (9-cell) with the power off in room temperature (9.6 ~ 40 °C/ 49.28 ~104 °F). " So far, this has been closer to the truth for me. Needless to say I am a little disappointed. This is a pretty great notebook otherwise though, so don't discount it completely, just be aware of the fact that you may have to invest in the 9-cell battery early on.

    Did you undervolt it?

Does it get warm anywhere? I looked at it at a local Future Shop and it didnt feel warm at all. Maybe they just turned it on, I was there pretty early..

Nope, havent undervolted anything. I havent had it for a week even, so I don't even know anything about undervolting. Care to enlighten me?

As for it getting warm: When you use it for a while the fan (when it turns itself on in response to the temp) will blow some warm air out the opening on the upper left side. The base of the notebook also heats up a little around the middle, where I suspect the CPU is, but this is not very much.

Mind if I ask where you got it from?

    And under a week?

Heres something you may be interested in, $100 Mail in Rebate from LG with a pruchase of a LG LW60. However it does not say where you need to buy it from(There is another LS-series MiR which states a certain store). I tried to phone but they were busy, I left a message but I'm heading to work now - I won't know until later maybe.

GamePower Systems here in Ottawa. It's the 128MB video card version (although it only has the 60GB HD, so I may want to verify that number with Sandra™). Got it for $2099, which is $100 less than FutureShop had it on clearance sale for. And yes, I only picked it up on Friday night after work.

Thanks for the link, rebates are awesome and I'll definitely try for this one. (It may even go a third of the way towards getting me the $300 9-cell battery...)

Yea FS has it for $2199!

The one at FS here said it was 128mb x600 with 80gb 4200rpm(booo!) HD.

But I was looking around and I found a 60gb version of it for $17xx, yet I think that is the 'older' version of the LG LW60.

The rebate was awesome, that made me switch my mind on my choice :p

Too bad the only LG dealers here that have the newer LW60 is FutureCrap...I mean FutureShop

Yeah, turns out that I do only have the 64MB version, the other 64MB is from the system memory. Slightly disappointing, but it was one of only a handfull of LW60s available to the LG dealers in Canada right now. Or at least the dealers not hoarding their stock like FutureShop...

Is that one for $17xx the pre-express model or something? I see you're from T.O. and usually you guys have some better pricing than us lowly Ottawans...
