I'm thinking of trying Linux after reading a lot about it, I already allocated 40GB on my hhd for it and since I never had any experience with it I'm afraid it might not work with our S1 and end up losing my data stored on my XP …

Is there any one tried different OS on S1 beside Vista & XP?

    **Using LG S1, 2.0 dule2, 160GB hhd, 1GB ram. XP pro…

Yeah, Gutsy Gibon comes to mind ^_^
I have used Ubuntu 7.10 for about 10 months and I don't need any security softwares on it.

There are a few distros that are great for laptops, Mandriva 2008 and Mint 4.0 come to mind.
My question is do you want to learn another OS, or are you like most people who want to have little to no learning curve? If you aren't into learning, you'll be back on Vista or XP in a week, maybe less.

Thank everybody for the input :)

I tried Ubuntu 7.10 for few hours and I was lazy to search for drivers – maybe later-
I thought the appearance will be similar to xp but I was wrong it look so primitive (not sure about the translation) but you get the picture.

I'm downloading mac os –don’t ask how- and I will give it a try. Based on my friend experience he's strongly pushing me to test mac os and assuring me that once I try it I will never go back to windows …

    Good point,
the main reason I'm thinking of changing from xp is to know that I have the option to choose instead to be force with a specific os when I bought my laptop, to experience new things and have some knowledge about them, and finally I'm tired of wasting huge amount of my laptop resources on security programs knowing that other os don’t use them. Yet :p
