I blithely wiped Vista off the hard drive and have successfully installed XP Pro from CD, updated to sp3. All is working great except the video. Under Device Manager I don't have anything under "Display Adapters" but it shows under "Other Devices" as "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". I believe it has NVidia GeForce 8400M.

I downloaded all the XP drivers from LG website but I'm unsure which are the proper ones. When I try to run Setup for either the NVidia or NVidia Graphics packages it says "could not locate any drivers compatible with your hardware". I've tried the LG online support but they take 3 days to reply with the most unimaginably vague advice, in partial sentences at that.

There are also a bunch of weird driver packages for XP such as AMI BIOS Update, firmware update, chipset driver. Am I supposed to install all those?

    Thanks,
    Patrick

Thanks Taher. How did you find out which chipset the E500 has? The specs seem to say one or the other.

And do you know where the proper XP driver might be? I downloaded the Intel GM driver from LG and tried running AMIBCP with the A1637IL1.rom but it says "Error: File ROM ID incorrect". Should I check the box for "do not check ROM Id" I wonder?

I search a lot of site to find out my video adapter name & download too many driver from LG, but not support. At last I check with microsoft onlne & get proper driver.

Just try to update your operating system thru microsoft online.
    http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

then it will show which driver you have to update.

hope it will be ok, thanks.
