No North American dealers have one in stock... old or New.

    Congratulations.

Even in the best of times there's only FutureSlop.ca and not one USA dealer.
    Never seen one in person.
Sounds like the BEST 13.3 out there.

But I live in the proverbial 'center of the universe', midtown Manhattan, and there's no place I could even see one.

Trying to avoid the big worthwhile markets I guess.. in favor of Mallorytown, Ontario; etc.

    Sincerely,

    confused
    (or is it you?)

They don't sell any notebooks in the US, I really don't know why. I was tempted to buy an LG P300 when I saw one at the FutureShop in Vancouver, but my current laptop is serving my purpose fine, so I decided not to.

Baffling to ignore the Giant Market next door.
    What is that?
Their TVs are everywhere- someone would certainly carry it.
FutureSlop isn't serving NYC, LA, Miami, or Phoenix!

The p300 Looks great. 3.5 lbs is ½ lb lighter than the sz780 series and looks thinner yet.

Though would like solid color case- and smaller Faster Hard Drive option instead of [slower] std 250gb 5400 Drive.
    LIKE ...a 160GB 5400-Hybrid with some Flash Memory.. OR a 100-200GB 7200RPM drive.. OR... even a SSD at 64gb.
and of course, XP Pro 'down-gradability' for speed and space.

Some people want to store alot of music and other crap- I just want a fast light machine with superior/Best display, and 13.3 is as small as I'll go. (13.1 wide loses alot of sq inches)

    I'll give LG 3 weeks before I get a sz780 with 3gbs and a 7200 rpm drive. (or a 160gb hybrid)

They've been in Canada for the past 4 years now selling notebooks, and they've done pretty well so far. Not sure why they don't want to sell to US customers though, they've never bothered to trek down there, but there could be good reason behind it.

Based on stats and past experiences, in Canada, premium notebooks sell very well, so notebooks with good build quality, specs and a $1800+ price tag will sell more then sub $1000 notebooks. People pay for quality. Can't really say the same with the American market, where its dominated by sub $1000 or even sub $500 notebooks are majority of the market, whereas up here, its a really small niche market.

People who really wanted the P300 imported it and based on what I see, most have been pretty happy about it, paid a premium but they enjoy the notebook(plus exclusivity status), they mention that they imported it here, then left NBR for good reasons - They never had a problem or difficulty with it!

The P300 will be back in Future Shop. The old config has been sold out, and they are waiting for the new config which is currently shipping. The two models are P300-U.APB3A9 (Black Rose finish) and P300-U.APW3A9 (Red Wine finish). You can check out the specs on LG Canada's website at http://ca.lge.com/en/products/category/list/p300series.jhtml. You can also visit http://ca.lge.com/notebookworld for our notebook microsite with all our new models.

In terms of US availability, LG Canada operates separately from LG US, so I can not speak for them, other than to say that they have thus far decided not to carry notebooks.

    Hey unmarc,

I am selling my Notebook LG P300-U.ABRAG - it's the german version with the german keyboard layout but if that doesn't bother I could send it to the US. Just drop me a note if your interested. (I can send you pictures - It's in perfect condition, like new, just 2 months old, barely used)

That's probably one of the main reasons we don't have LG notebooks down here, unfortunately.

Even with being in an upscale suburban area, people are completely taken over by the $500-$1000 laptops. They crowd around them at the local Best Buys, and they sell out faster than anything else.

I guess they don't realize, with laptops, price will usually get you a better quality system.

Yeah the P300 is thinner than the SZ and is in fact better value...(in Hong Kong anyway). I was very impressed by it when i saw it the other day.

    1. Danka McGyver but a German keyboard won't work for me.

I would buy a slightly used one though.

    2. Brian_from_LG

Are the new P300 models exclusively 320GB 5400 RPMs?

I was hoping for an option/model with 100GB or more 7200RPM or a 64GB SSD... or a hybrid 160GB (with 256mb or MORE of Flash) as Sony has.

I am a light but nimble Drive user.
I need fast surfability but not the Monster that ate Cleveland 320GB/5400 Land Rover.

ie,, many auction sites with 50 thumbnails pics on a page; back and forth to full size jpgs etc.

Just got a new Desktop with XP (q9300, 3gb PC6400) and only used 60GBs of 160 on my old one in 3 years. Still using a vp201b, 1600x1200. Good format and res.

My New computer only has a 250GB drive because it's the smallest with 16MB Cache.
Almost got a 150GB Raptor, but am not a gamer, and didn't want to risk the noise.

So in a Portable.. I could get away with much less.
13.3" at 3.5 lbs is a perfect size for me- medium screen and almost ultra-light weight.

Airbook configuration/light-weight would even do, but am not an Apple fan.
The screen, while appearing bright, also is a bit Milky/lacking contrast/black)

320GB 5400rpm will have similar write and read speeds as a 200GB 7200rpm due to higher data density... :) But slow seek times.

unmarc, yes the new P300 in Canada only has the 320GB 5400RPM option.

icehell, the new config is shipping now, so should be arriving in Future Shop locations starting next week.

hey Brian. what exactly do you mean by the "new config". does that mean the new P300 will utilize the centrino 2 platform?

Future Shop doesn't ship to the United States.

And even if they did, there'd be tax, since Future Shop is owned by Best Buy Canada, which is an operating subsidiary of Best Buy Company, which operates in nearly every state in the US.
