    Hello!

I recently bought a LS 70 Exp with the spec below(after reading in on this forum alot, THX for all the tips). I must say that I´m very satisfied with it, it´s a major upgrade from my 500Mhz iBook :)

The only real problem that it has caused me is when I try to connect it with my TV. I do get a picture but it´s only black and white. I checked the settings that I used on my Mac and i stated 1024x768@50Hz for the TV output.
When I try to alter the settings on my X600 card I can only see update frequencys down to 60Hz(wich is the NTSC-system). But my Europe standard PAL Tv requires 50Hz(I live in sweden...)

I´ve searched the forum, ATIs website and LGs dito, but I can´t fing any info on what frequencys the card supports.

Does anyone know a possible fix to this? Or do I have to buy a new TV as well?(not an option)

I bought my computer i Sweden and I would say that if it states that the computer have a TV output, it should complie to the European standard...

    Thanks in advance
    Niklas

two tips.. don't have any video's like avi open when you plug in the tv, but make sure the tv av-whatever is switched to s-vhs (usually done via the tv menu)

    HI!

i think the problem is that your TV dosent support SVHS you should switch your graphic card to composite which has a lower quality but then you should be able to see all the colors

The problem may not be just freq but also format.
    All NTSC are 60Hz.
    All PAL are 50hz.
But there are all subversions of these like PALB, PALI, etc.

The black and white problem will normally come from trying to display NTSC on a PAL TV.

You are also looking in the wrong place for your TV output options.
Youll need to go to the "Displays" tab in the ATI control panel, and click on the word "TV" which is in the bar above the pic of a TV.
In dialog that then comes up youll be able to select the TV out format.
    Try "PAL B" first.

    Good luck.

About the same answer that the LG support gave me, but I still think it´s strange that I can´t set the external screen(TV) to 50Hz... I would imagine that PAL SVHS signal(if such a thing exists, is SVHS a standard of its own?) would state 50Hz in the ATI control panel. I wasn´t abel to find any composite setting.

    MWP:
I´ve tried all the subversions in the Display...etc panel, nothing works.

I think that the real problem is that the screen on the notebook doesn´t support frequencys below 60Hz, hence I´m not able to set the external screen below that. The manual for the x700 card, which was the only one that I was able to find, tells you to shut down your primary screen if you are to connect a TV since the screen(primary) could be damaged if set to 50Hz. But nothing of this works. From what I can tell it ain´t possible to turn off the internal screen on my notebook.

Thanks alot for the help! (so far? :))
    Have a nice day!

    Problem solved:

My SVHS -> Scart adapter also gives me the option to connect a composite(which I recently learned that it was called) cable.
The solution was to buy a 4€ SVHS to composite converter and viola, it works!

Sorry to tell you this now, but you could have done this a much easier way...

I found that a SVIDEO -> Composite cable like that which comes with most NVidia or ATI PC video cards works fine.
The laptop detects the cable is for composite and outputs composite instead of svideo :)

You should probably do this as you should get better quality than using your SVideo -> Composite converter box.

The thing I bought is just that, sorry to misslead you by calling it a converter. It´s just a adapter wich lets you connect the video signal to the composite input on the TV instead of the SVIDEO dito.
I didnt get any cable with my card....
