    Try Girder.
From what I can see - the remote uses ATI Drivers and should be able to have a program such as girder interpet the remote commands and assign functions/macros to get what you need done. Girder takes a bit to figure out - but do spend the time reading the manual and you will understand how it interacts before getting frustrated with it...

I do not believe this is the case. I am pretty sure that the remote is a HID device with the keys permanently mapped to keyboard commands.

There are 2 piece of software installed by default:
RMan.exe and PDVDServ.exe, both of which hook into the keyboard stack to control the way this interacts with software. If you were to remove these programs, you could use either Girder or my free software HIP http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip via the keyboard interface to control the way the remote interacts with all programs on your system.

Having recently joined the LG family, I will put the remote through its paces to see how much control I can get from the device and will report here on my progress.
