Hi all, this is my first post on these forums. Seems to be a great site with high quality posters.

Hoping someone can help me out.

I have an LG LS50a notebook which has run happily for around 4 years. Recently I had it turned on when the screen blanked out. The power stayed on and there seemed to be HDD activity, but I couldn't get the monitor to come back on. I used the normal key combinations to attempt to hibernate the system, but it stayed powered on with the monitor off - in other words, it seemed to not respond to input.

After powering off then on again, the monitor remained black and the HDD lights flash a few times, but nothing more.

If I leave it powered off overnight or for a day or 2, then turn it back on, the monitor comes on for a little while, but blacks out again either during boot up, or not long after I've logged on to Windows.

I've taken out the HDD and used a mate's external disk case to retrieve all my data and scan the drive for errors, and according to that it's 100% fine.

Has anyone had a similar problem, or can suggest what it may be?

    Thanks in advance.

No idea at the moment. Do you have the chance to plug an external monitor for testing?

When you say that "the monitor comes on for a little while"
Do you see the BIOS/POST? If you don't, it might be a motherboard problem
