I'm considering buying an LM70 this week. Is there anything I should know about it before buying?

I am buing LG LW70 in two weeks time and I will post a review. I haven't heard anything bad about LG notebooks and many people say they are very good.

with the LM50 and the 9 cell I get at least 4-5 hours out of my laptop while surfing the net (wireless) and doing development... and I'm using an editor that sucks up quite a significant chunk of cpu and ram :)

My guess is the main difference is probably the screen, a 17" screen will be drawing significantly more than a 15"

I get a good 150 minutes of battery on the LP60 while being on wireless internet/intranet and doing basic tasks such as browsing / word processing on a 15`4 inch screen. That on a Pentium IV processor is not bad at all.
Maybe its the screen brightness that makes a lot of difference.

    Mobile Intel Pentium4 3.06 - HT
    1Gb Ram

    15.4" WXGA TFT LCD

What is the issue and fix then please 'nobackup'???

My only complaint is the DVD drive is a bit noisy - it whines whilst playing DVD's

Had my LW70 for approx 3 weeks now and it's all and more than I expected.
Battery life of approx 3.5hrs during general use (web/wi-fi) it's light, quiet and cool - nothing like the HP8000 monster that I returned...

Would love to know where I can buy accesories such as the port replicator/RAM/STA HDD - nothing at all in Australia that I can find...

    Is the CPU upgradable?

I've had my LW70 Express now for about a week and am very impressed. Battery life hasn't affected me as yet. I get about 3-4 hours depending on screen brightness and HDD/DVD use. I got the best "specked" unit available in Dubai.

    2.0 Ghz Sonoma
    1Gb DDR2 RAM
    ATI M24 (X-600 mobile) w/128mb RAM
100Gb HDD (only a 4200RPM Fujitsu unit -one of my few disapointments)
    17.1" WSXGA+ Bright LCD
    High definition audio (Azailia chipset)

I had been looking for something with similar specks for sometime, and am confident there has been nothing released quite like it as yet by anyone else. My wife has an HP DV-1000 series that I was able to use for some time before I got my unit. I do miss the dedicated media and internet buttons it has (although the LW's IR remote does provide some consolation). The LW70 weighs in about the same as the Dv-1000, but has a huge hi-res screen, and is still "portable" in my books. I use it on the road extensively, but it packs into a wheeled "flight bag" so long distances aren't an issue (not that 3.1 kg for a 17" would be). I must say also it's the only 17" unit that would fit in my case.

It's missing Giga Lan, but that really won't be an issue with me for some time (if ever). If I need to, the PCI Express slot should have sufficient bandwidth without clogging the PCI bus to accomodate me when the new generation expansion cards hit the street.

The case seems very strong, and resilient (carbon fibre and magnesium), but I expect it will collect dirt and stuff around the touchpad (one of the best of those things I've used-and the scroll mode works smoothly -Hp could learn a thing or two!) and could show marks more prominently than other materials/colours.
As M1lkman stated, the speakers aren't really screamers (another weak point compared to other models if you rate laptop built in sound a high priority) but fine for listening to music/movies/sounds while close to the keyboard at lower volume levels. I do like the freely configurable input/output audio jacks, and S/PDIF out is a definite plus for me.

Wifi B/G is built in, but it's missing Bluetooth. LG includes a USB Bluetooth dongle, but it's something else to lose and have sticking out the side when you use it. Built in would definately score big with me.

The keyboard seems well designed, and feels solid. The numberpad is a bonus. The shared function keys cover virtually every other function you may need to access, and there are certain keys to use while in "instant DVD" or "Music" modes to access menus and various play modes.

Using PC Mark 04 I got these results:
    Pc Mark Score: 3914
    CPU Score : 3828
    Memory Score : 3250
    Graphics Score 2230
    HDD Score : 2276

Not screaming compared to the Acer 8100 in the video or HDD department, but still admirable considering how compact it is with a large screen...have I mentioned that beatiful screen before!

The pricing here puts this unit far in the lead for price/performance compared to all other 15.4" or 17" laptops with greater than WXGA resolution. LG is trying to position itself as a major player in the portable PC market worldwide in the comming year or two, so I suspect support if and when required will be exceptional -to build a satisfied client base. (only rumors I hear in this part of the world)

The LG distributer here has all the accessories, but I havn't priced them out yet, or asked about HDD swap options. There are some 7200RPM 100Gb drives about to hit the market[ :p]. They have offered to swap my English /Arabic keyboard for a straight English one for free (15 minute job - while I wait -they say). we'll see how that works out.

From what I hear the processor is not swapable, but I wouldn't say the source was 100% reliable.

    My two bucks worth.

    hi there...
I'll be going to Dubai in 2 weeks, and was wondering where can I find LG laptops with a GOOD configuration in Dubai and their price. I'm maily looking for a Light-weight 14 or 15" with a good graphics chip like the X600 or the Geforce Go6600, and with WiFi a/b/g and if possible Bluetooth.
Thanks a million if u could help.

We could have heard you if you had posted the same message only once instead of 3 times, but well.
Since you ask of dubai, there are a few well reputed showrooms where you can buy an LG. Plugins, RadioShack and ofcourse jacky's. but none of them have the whole range that LG has to offer. For that I would like to suggest PC-LINK GATE. they are the dealers for LG in Dubai. They have a few showrooms scattered around Bur Dubai area, but the main one is in the " AL-AIN centre" or popularly known as Computer Plaza, opposite Al Khaleej Center.

You can speak to Mr. Ahmed there who is showroom incharge there.
    The Numbers are 04-3523733, 04-35958895.
    Their website is http://www.pc-int.com

    Hope this helps.
