    Hi,
I want to buy 4GB of ram but I don't know if it is compatible with BIOS. Have anyone tried this??

By the way, I need to use windows XP so I want it to be compatible with it too.
    Thanks!

I hear 4GB is useless in XP on any notebook unless you have the x64 version, I believe. Someone will post otherwise if this isn't the case, but that's what I read.

    It's technically true.

Windows XP-- and actually since windows 2000, Windows has been able to assign 36 bits of registers on x64 compatible processers even in a 32bit OS... However... It seems many motherboards don't support this feature, and thus, it doesn't matter.

By allowing 36 bit registers, it'd be able to assign all the registers ::sigh, annoyed:: basically i spent a long time persuing this with MS help. It's actually IN THEIR DOCUMENTATION, and none of their people understood what a register or a memory address or any of it was... In.. any case, the end result?

No, you can't use a full 4 GB in a 32 bit OS, even one you're supposed to. You'll probably see more like 4 gb - your videocard memory or so (all videocard memory, not that which was assigned) or just a bit over 3 GB. Depends on your motherboard, again.

From the S1 user's guide: Each memory socket can support a memory module from 128MB to 1024MB, and the maximum memory capacity of the computer is 2GB.

In S1 catalog it states that it can handle up to 4GB ram

But in reality windows XP x32 will most likely show 3 GB only….

Yes, for 4GB+ of memory to work fully in your desired OS choice, you'll need to use the 64bit version a.k.a x64. You'll have to ensure that your applications and device drivers are 64bit compatible too.

No one will post otherwise that this isn't the case, but that's what we read. :D

    Thanks to all!!

It's kinda weird, because as bo3adsa said it can handle 4gb but Mag07 is also right!

In the Ez User's Guide it says: MAX 2GB, 1GB per slot.

So I don't know what to do xD, i dont really want to buy it for nothing.
But thanks for your help :D

Strange LG provides different info in different documents. Made me curious about the issue so I wrote them an email. No reply so far.

Still, I think 2GB of ram is plenty, and by the time we will really need 4, it most likely will be time to change laptops, so personally I don't worry much about that :)

The user guide says max 2gb because more than that hasn't been officially tested with the system. That doesn't mean that a 2gb stick won't work. Your best bet is probably to call a rep.

3.2GB is the maximum you can use with a 32 bit OS, you have to upgrade to a 64 bit operating system(assuming you already have a 64 bit processor) in order to take advantage of anyhing more than that.

Thanks panteedropper, I think I'll not buy 4GB. It's better to buy a new notebook later.
