I want to plug in some decent speakers into my T61. Is the soundcard as good as other laptops?

whats your level of expectation? it sounds fine to me, even the built in speakers are not bad for a notebook

When I plug in headphones, the noise from the computer (hard drive, etc.) and motherboard interference always carries through, although it isn't a big deal to me. If you get a dedicated solution like the Creative Audigy 2 (PCMCIA) or X-fi (Expresscard 54) you'll fare better in getting good quality sound.

if you're going to use this thing as a desktop replacement, the audio cables coming out of the front of the laptop might get annoying. you can always pick up a half decent 30 dollar USB soundcard from turtle beach to listen to your music. You dont quite exactly need top of the line stuff since logitech isnt "audiophile" grade equipment.
