I just got my T61p 14" SXGA+, and I found the LCD frame is about 2-3mm wider than the rest of the system (the half with the keyboard). Is it normal?

Can you post your general impressions about the T61p? How do you like the screen? Is the screen a Samsung screen or LG? Some folks were worried that because it was shipping so soon, the screens may not be as good. How's the build quality in general?

His is 4:3, so he's lucky if he got Samsung. It's the widescreen where you want LG.

I just got it 15 minutes ago, so haven't really used it yet. The screen is a TMD but the view angle is better and the screen is brighter than my T60 14" SXGA+ TMD.

    Does it come with
    1) firewire port?
    2) WWAN or just WWAN antenna?
    3) New fan and cooling system? compare to your T60.

    Your answers are much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    1) firewire port is not available on the 14" 4:3 T61p. :(
    2) I didn't order WWAN so I have no idea about the WWAN part.
    3) the max fan speed (speed level 7) is only 3200rpm comparing with 3700rpm on my T60. The CPU and GPU are running cooler than my T60 under light usage. idle at 45C CPU and 45C GPU (comparing to 50C/70C with my T60). I only tested when one cpu is running at 100% with some 3D application running (glxgears under Ubuntu), and the CPU temp rises to 63C and GPU to 65C under such load. I haven't try heavier load like 1 superpi + 3dmark, but I bet both will be around the lower 80s if not higher. Although the CPU/GPU temperature is lower than T60, the actual temperature of the keyboard, palm rest and the touch pad region is higher than my T60, really warm I would say. I guess it's because it was designed in such a way that the keyboard will help to dissipate heat, but still it's a bit hotter than I would like. And the air comes out from the vent are always very hot (the air comes out from the back vent also makes the lower left part of the LCD cover a bit warmer).

I haven't started to do the clean installation of XP yet. Just tried Ubuntu Feisty though, the video card and 4965AGN card are both shown as unknown device, although using Envy has solved the video card problem and brought back the gnome graphics mode :).

All 14" SXGA+ screens are TMDs.
