I am going to be getting a T61 with the follow specs:

    T7300 (2.0Ghz / 800Mhz FSB / 4MB L2)
    14.1" WSXA
    Windows Vista Business
    Intel P965 + X3100
    3GB (1GB + 2GB DDR2-667)
    100GB 7200RPM HDD
    Intel 4965AGN + Bluetooth

Pretty much looking for light and mobile. Will 4 cell + 3 cell media bay work.

I have a 14.1" with the NVIDIA and 7200RPM drive, running on Vista. The 4 cell only gives me around 1h:20m. It's probably going to be a little better with the integrated graphics, but overall I'd say you should consider the larger batteries (or get the ultranav battery like I did - adds another 45m - 1h) if you are planning to do much mobile use without AC.

I get two hours with a 4 cell battery at max settings with integrated graphics and atheros wireless.

I think I will go with the 4 cell, as lightweight performance is important to me. I may get the 3 cell media bay battery as well.

Is there a "place holder" that you can but in the media bay if you don't want to carry around the weight of the DVD drive, but you don't want an open bay that things can get into to....

^i asked that question about the media bay and I was told that a placeholder doesn't exist.
I'm complaining with my 6-cell battery! With my dedicated graphics I get a max of 3.5hrs battery just surfing and typing!! Hopefully you'll be near an AC outlet most of the time because for me...even 3.5hrs is pushing it.

Placeholders do exist. If you buy a x series docking station it has a "travel bay" in the media bay.

I have similar specs as you (X3100) and the 4-cell. Combined with the ultrabay I might be able to get 4 hours if I'm not doing anything hard drive intensive.

Sure, you can always find a way to run the batteries down if you want to. Run virus check, download something, play a game - at the same time. And since you have the T61p, do you also have discrete graphics? The OP is looking at the X3100 so maybe it's apples and oranges...
