My 61's on it's way back to Durham, primarily because of the LCD. And my disappointment is not just from pepsi challenging it to my Z's LG. This 14.1 Samsung was literally the worst LCD I've ever seen. On black screens like the screensaver, there was a huge white arc of light at the bottom; then any other screen an annoying metallic sheen from the bottom that shrinks as I tilt it until it immediately starts appearing at the top a little. I am NOT an lcd snob. Currently using an e-machines lcd I got open box for $34. It's fine, whatever angle I look at it.
Anyways, now I'm looking at the free sxga+ coupon on the 15" (thanks jull), unless this is always going to boil down to whether you're just lucky enough to get an LG. Really don't want to gamble again.
So is there anyone out there with a " 15.0 SXGA+ TFT Flexview Display with Wide Viewing Angle" who is LESS than impressed with it, whether samsung or lg? Or can I bank on either brand's flexview being at least as good as the 15.4" sxga+ in my Z (which is great from any angle, however you look at it, and I really don't think was called "flexview" or anything special that I remember).

There are a couple of manufacturers for the flexview panel. You get whatever is available on the factory floor at the time when your order is assembled.

I think I rambled too much. Let me just repeat the important part:
Hmm, if I can beleive this page- Samsung only makes the non flexview 15" sxga+.

I am guessing SkiBunny will have the scoop on this. -
get it.....you will not be sorry!

What make is yours gig, an LG right? Tell me more about ips, how you're liking it. Only complaints I've read so far is occasional reports of sparkle.
At least I don't have to fear Samsung if get flexview. They list three makes, DBU, IDTech, or LG, and apparently the ONLY flexview make for the t60 is lg.
Like this coupon deal, can get a pretty low priced tp w/flexview. In fact, wish it'd let me opt for integrated graphics. Usually never available w/.sxga+ -

gjg and unhooked are correct.
You can indeed get sxga+ with integrated graphics, but flexview requires the extra capability of dedicated graphics.
The X1300 will do fine tho. The only difference between it and the X1400 is its extra 64mb of video memory. It's uneconomical to get the X1400 imho, because the ATI X has hypermemory, meaning extra video memory is gotten from RAM extremely efficiently. So it makes much more economic sense to buy an X1300 than an X1400, and use the savings to add a gig or two of RAM instead. For the same cost, you'll have better performance overall. (but if money is no object, get the X1400 plus the extra ram) -
I've seen lots of flexviews and they all were great. Don't worry.
I've also seen some crappy T61 screens this week, and poor T60ws and Z60m screens before that.
It's a shame that Lenovo no longer offers optional IPS technology for select thinkpads, with the T61 line. The quality of the past is sorely missed. -
Money's a factor (so is heat), I'll go w/the x1300.
So you're up on the comparisons- will I find this display >/= the quality of the 15.4" LG 1680x1050? That one wasn't flexview, but viewing angles were fine. Definitely not like this Samsung 14.1 1440x900. That was a shocker.
The 15" T60 won't have a magnesium lid huh? True they only put that on the 14"? I heard that around here, but lenovo tech specs say they have magnesium lid. -
I'm really not that picky. This is actually the first time I've been disappointed by an lcd. Think I'll go for it.
Thanks. -
Some ppl do not like the 15.4" LG screen either (it's actually cheaper and some ppl feel it's fuzzy). The samsung seems uneven to me. Both are harsh to me.
If you're not picky about the LCD, then maybe you don't need an IPS screen.
The X3100 is available only on the T61, not a T60. The X3100 is a big improvement in integrated graphpics. For me, it's the only tangible benefit of a T61 (if you want integrated graphics).
As for the heat, it was a major issue with the first CoreDuo T60's running dedicated graphics. But it was resolved, at least with the ATI X video cards, on the October napa refresh (core2duo). There are reports that the new grahpics card on the T61 has heat problems for some ppl. The card draws more power and generates more heat. It may be okay (it is for some owners), so time will tell. -
Since build quality wasn't even a deal breaker with the 61, I'm sure I'll be fine with whatever materials in the 60. And I'm getting the t5500, 64mb, and 5400rpm; in a 15" case shouldn't be too hot.
Thanks for the tips. -
The downside is that I've experienced some squeaky spots around the palm rest on 15" 4:3 T60 & T43 models. Also, they're thicker than the 14"
Is the 15" flexview sxga+ also a flip of the Samsung-LG coin?
