The thing has been packing for 5 days now. Is this z60m so ****ed large that it needs the whole pallet to itself and more than a ton of packing peanuts?
On a more serious note, what is the average time span for this packing process before getting finally shipped out? Also, how does the tracking number come, or how am I given a notice of shipment?

Hey dietcokefiend, I purchased my Z60m on Wednesday(18th) and it has been packing since that day as well. It says that it's scheduled to ship on the 23rd though...although judging by some recent posts I'm concerned if that will be the case or not. I'll respond to this thread if there are any changes...please keep us informed of your experience as well.

I know someone who has had a z60m packing for over 2 and 1/2 weeks...I think they are doing this so people are tricked into thinking their package will be shipped sooner than it will, because I know many people are very upset about the wait times. It took me over 2 months to get mine, and that was packing for about a week and half, and then I got it.
-
Over the phone I was told mine is in packing. Online said backordered, now with in 2 weeks. Finally the expected ship date is 2-1-06. I ordered on 12-15-05 and they told me 4-6 weeks at the time. When I call to question them they say 6-8 is more realistic + 2 weeks for shipping. 10 weeks to get a stinking notebook that about 1/5 of a year!!

Yeah, that is kinda crappy...by the time you order and receive it, it is going to be out of date. just kidding!
-
ugh, Lenovo needs to get their supply chain in order.
-
Now mine has been updated to packing but estimated ship date is still 2-1. I guess it does take two weeks to pack.
-
USAFdude02, your not kidding! With the dual cores on the horizon the z60's will be out of date!
-
-
I don't know when the dual cores will find their way into the Z series, but I do know the T60 will have it, and will be pretty comparable to the Z other than the widescreen display and some of the inputs on the Z(like firewire and card reader).

My z60t began packing on Dec. 27th and finally shipped Yesterday, Jan. 20th. And the t is a little smaller than the m....
My guess is that the box put up one heck of a fight.... -
I ordered a Z60t 11/22, it went into packing on the 12/26, which was the original estimated ship date. It has been in packing ever since. The new date on the web says 1/27.

Just canceled my Z60m. Tired of waiting. Ordered a refurbished X31 and will have it by next week.

Still packing. It has gotten to the point where I have completely put the laptop out of my mind and I am working on building a new desktop. This has sapped 100% of the fun out of buying a new product. It is almost as bad as counting the days it takes for a rebate to arrive.
-
Cancel the the order. I figured what is the point of spending $1500 today when dual core, 64 bit and Vista are are comming out shortly? Instead I ordered a refurbished X31 that was mailed the same day I orderd it. Now I have $600 more sitting in my pocket which I will use to buy a replacement when the Dual core, 64 bit and Vista are mainsteam. This way I will have a nice ultra portable notebook and eventually a desktop replacement which I can live without for now. -
Called today and they said will ship this week. I noticed the price had dropped since I ordered, and they put in request for price protection. Will receive credit with in ten days of shipping. Price dropped about $100 since 11/22.
Anyone know if rebate applies? Rebate is for machines invoiced by 1/31. Invoice is at ship, right? -
I just cancelled my order yesterday as well, since I had recieved 2 different notifications with different dates pushing back the original date they had given me. Granted it wasn't 3 to 4 weeks but I thought, oh no, they're going to do to me what they've done to a lot of you out there. Billing rep said that there was a possibility that they COULDN'T cancel the order because it was already in processing to be shipped(never mind what the notifications I recieved said)! He said that he would call me that day if it COULDN'T be cancelled(no call btw). He also said if that was the case I would recieve it in the mail and I'd have to ship it back, all the while not giving me any guarantee of not having to pay for return shipping! Have you ever heard of anything so absurd? Not being able to stop an order before it's shipped out(and I ordered NO customizations)? If I felt I could take them at their word then I would have maybe waited longer....so I call today and talk to a different rep and they tell me there is NO way to stop the order at this point even though it's not been shipped, and I'll just have to return it if I don't want it!!!! Looks like this will get interesting....have already ordered a Z70va from powernotebooks today, after not recieving a call from the first Lenovo/IBM rep, assuming everything was cancelled....guess not. I will say again, if I felt I could believe them after they had extended the date twice in one day I would have been more patient...but seeing as how this has become a problem for them I decided to back out. So buyer beware, if you ahve no reasonable expectation for shipping IBM/Lenovo still has a great product.....if you don't feel like waiting for their whim to send you a laptop go somewhere else. And if they make right by me, I will post back and say so!

Giving the order one more day (the expected ship date), and if its not out by then I might just end up buying a dual core Apple. IBM is showing itself to not even be able to get products to the market place in recent times. The z60 was supposed to be out shipping in October, and its late January, and people are still BARELY even getting them. You can't tell me orders are so insane and that is why they are so backlogged, because they own very little of the market place to begin with. HP, Dell, Toshiba, and probably even Apple end up selling more devices, and they seem to actually get stuff out on time, or before expected.
I don't remember these sorts of problems when it was still owned by IBM, but now that it was sold off there seems to be insane wait times to get anything. -
Edit-
I just checked and the computer was removed from my order. They never told me what to do with the free memory stick I already recieved with the computer. -
ExJxC, I would be interested to know what the status of your old order number is on Lenovo's site? I've read that many people who have cancelled orders see that reflected on the site, however mine still shows as "Packing" even though I cancelled it...thus leading me to believe I truly cannot cancel it even though it hasn't been shipped.
-
My order was split into two orders. One was the free 512 memory card which I have sitting next to me and the other was the computer. The memory card shows as delivered and the computer order is no longer on my account. The account balance is $0. It did take them a day or so to remove the computer.

Boy, what a mess, seems like another member had success cancelling their Z60t order through Lenovo.com and then replacing it through a third-party reseller http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=1235788&postcount=37 but of course you lose the 30-day protection if you go elsewhere and still no guarantees

Want an easy way? Freeze your credit card. No cash= no shipment
-
but I am not sure if that would work. A day after I placed my orginal order my bank called and asked me if I purhased anything from Lenovo. I think they have authorization to bill your account from day one so I am not sure with how it would work. -

Thanks that makes sence. -
I think Dual Cores got a issue right now...
I tried out a Acer Dual Core notebook and it's battery life was less then a hour and a half.
Is my box going to be the size of the pallet?
