Either I'm getting Core 2 Duo envy or just wanna burn 1300 bucks...as a web developer, I mainly use the T43 for Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, and MS Office. Not much of a gamer any more, but would like to be able to play Starcraft2 when it comes out even though no system requirements have been officially released for it. Looking at a T61 with discrete graphics. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

If I had a t43 that was meeting all of my requirements, no way would I buy a 61 now. Yeah eventually you'll upgrade anyways, but why jump on it now, when it's so new, as they are working out issues that may or may not exist?

    I'd hold off.

I'm a web developer myself and I was in the same situation as you. Actually I was running Visual Studio 2005 Pro Edition, SQL Server 2005 Std. Edition and other MS based web development tools with my T43. I thought it was alright until I started doing my work on the T61... My god.. was it so much more responsive and quicker in terms of building the solutions. It is so much faster if you run background applications like Coldfusion MX7, which I also use.

My current T61 has the following: Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz Processor, 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400RPM HDD, Nvidia Quadro 140m... Those are the basic specs...

My system just absorbs everything I put it through... I'll have no doubt you'll have a better developing experience with the T61.

    Cheers,
    Nick

you're probably even better of with the t61p, if you care about your output bandwidth.

If you plan on doing it, you should probably do it soon. The AMEX Tailormade program ends on the 30th I think so if you want to get an additional 10% off then now is the time.

There are some other options too though, I did the SPP option instead of EPP when I ordered.

Also try using this coupon code if you use SPP:USXIBMSPPTRIPLE

It saved me an additional 95 dollars!
