T400 to get the slightly better CPU and mainly the LED screen? T61 is perfect in everyway, but it just seems an LED screen would be so cool and so bright and easy for me and clients to see.

I could sell the T61 and get back 700 out of about 1000 for the T400.

I wouldn't do it... I'd wait like three more years :)

Kind of up to you...if it was me, I'd wait a refresh or two. Your laptop is still plenty powerful. Only do it if you need the increased battery life of the LED/Centrino 2 Combo

In my opinion, LED display is not worth $300. You could buy a solid external LCD monitor with that kind of money if you wanted.

If you're happy with what you have, I say stick it out for a couple of refreshes. That's what I'm doing with my T61, even though I'd really like the X300 going on sale right now for $1,200.

If you're looking for enhanced image quality, the LED does not offer it. You do get a bit better battery life and the screen is a bit brighter. If you looking for better PQ, I'd pick up a T60 with the IPS, though that's a 15" notebook and probably not as mobile, but that would depend on your needs.

Thanks for all your input. I already have 2 external monitors, but would use the lappy on the road. I have never seen a matte LED which is part of my dilemma. Buying and selling laptops seems to be my Modus Operandi :) If I did do it, Lenovo is having a great sale, but that ends at Midnight tonight as far as I know. This would be my Christmas present to my self. However, I could easily not do it as I did just order a WD Scorpio BLACK 320GB drive for my T61 :) Good thing I am not a laptop maniac or anything :) I just love the darn things.

less ram? slower/smaller hdd? no way! keep the t61. I saw the sale also but I just keep telling myself that lenovo will come through for us and release either a new IPS or AFFS+ screen to it's loyal fans...

Not worth it at all, I think. The T61 is such a great piece of kit. And the keyboard is a lot better.

In general, you're just paying money for some very marginal 'improvements'. Wait a few cycles until the differences are big enough to warrant it.

When u get something new you'll never think it's good enough. Even when u get the T400 pretty soon something better will come along and then you'll want to sell the T400. Just stick to it. It's only a laptop.

Use it until it's kaput or until it's at least 3 yrs old whichever comes first. Then u can get the T410 or T420 or whatever T4xx will be current at that future time. Who knows, some T61 collector may be willing to pay top dollar.

I have to agree with zephryrus. Of course some of that may have to do with having a t61p.
