You know how there are some parts better bought aftermarket, like HD and RAM? Well what about the 9 cell battery? Is it better to get it from Lenovo or is it cheaper and better to buy on my own?

    Thanks.

For batteries, it's always best to use OEM (Lenovo).

    ok,
So you guys are saying going with Lenovo brand batteries is the best. Are they available cheaper aftermarket online somewhere than getting it with my order?

You're best off ordering an expanded battery at the time you order a notebook. It's the cheapest way.

Buying afterwards is expensive, no matter what. I'd make sure you get Lenovo-OEM batteries though, as I would with any notebook. With third-party batteries, you don't know which cells were used to build them and what kind of quality control went into them. There are some reliable vendors, but finding them is hit-or-miss. Cut-rate batteries, if not up to OEM spec, may have shorter lifespans, give you less runtime per charge, or even pose more of a leakage or fire hazard; they also aren't covered under warranty, and if your notebook fails due to one, it may not be covered either.

Ebay may save you a bit of money, if you know which FRU numbers to look for, and is worth a try. Just make sure they specify the battery is genuine OEM, not OEM-equivalent.

oem equivalent is a VERY loose definition. I wouldn't trust it.
