Is anyone using GRUB with a Rescue and Recovery hidden partition? Are you able to access it normally? I had things running fine until a Linux update overwrote my menu.lst file for grub. I tried to reconfig it, but I can't access the R&R partition at all... only Vista. If you have a working menu.lst file, any chance you could post it here?

    Thanks
    KF

i have grub set up so that i can access the R&R partition, the only problem is that even though I can boot into it, nothing happens when I try to restore from it or what not...

IBM/Lenovo are ... I don't even know. ****ing morons? Yeah... that sounds right.

The hidden partition is dependent on a special MBR that Lenovo generates or whatever, so when you change it (by using GRUB or LILO or a custom bootloader), everything goes to hell.

They supposedly have a tool to fix the problem... which you can find here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54483.html

But out of some sort of prevailing sheer ****ing brilliance on Lenovo's part, the app doesn't even run (in Vista at least). And it requires a floppy drive (I wonder how many people who order T61s have those just kicking around). The latter problem can be bypassed with a virtual drive but if the bloody app doesn't run what the hell's the point? And I'm sure it's a simple file that extracts an image onto a floppy. How the hell can you **** that up Lenovo?

A lot of people seemed to have fix their problem by Uninstalling/Reinstalling R&R. I never had R&R installed, just had a hidden partition and a clean copy of Vista. So I installed R&R 4.1, to see if it would help. It didn't. Another post (on this forum) indicated that R&R 4.0 fixed this problem, so I uninstalled 4.1 and tried to install 4.0... to get the following message:
There is not enough disk space to install or upgrade R&R.

I don't know whether that cryptic message applies to the Vista partition or the Hidden partition... but my Vista partition has ~10gb free. There's a total lack of proper documentation or information on Lenovo's part for this...

And I know, I know, I should have burned the recovery disks right? That would be ****ing awesome, if the lousy dvdrw they included with the machine worked. It wouldn't burn on Maxell media, which isn't a no name brand or anything, errored out. I'm like fine, I'll try this later... but wait! You can only burn the recovery discs [once]. ****ing Lenovo.

yejun, do the functions of R&R work with those settings?

i have configured my GRUB to be able to boot into R&R, but when i ask it to do anything, nothing happens. For example, if I try to do a factory restore, i go through the wizard as if everything is working, and then when I click "begin," nothing happens.
