I bought a loaded t61p to use it as a desktop replacement. Initially it was fine, but recently I have had a lot of lockups/freezes.

I think that it's a heat issue (and possibly software as well). Since I've had SP1, stability issues may have surfaced on a slightly more frequent basis. Now that the weather is warming up, it's getting noticeably worse. Especially if I'm on the "performance" power plan. In the past week or so, I probably average over 1 lockup/day where I will get no system response whatsoever. Then I have to hard reset.

I should be able to use "performance mode" stably, isn't that what I paid for?
And I should really be able to run my computer all day without issue, I thought that these were targeted towards the "power" or "performance" business user.

I may have to try out one of those notebook coolers, but I still think that it's bull**** that I would have to use one. I already sit the rear 2 corners of my thinkpad on rubber erasers to raise the bottom off the desk.

On another note, somehow there are errors on my hitatchi that chkdsk and sfc scannow won't fix. This is preventing me from using the backup functions... which is preventing me from doing a clean install!?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Edit:
Perhaps specs may be of some use.

Yes, I just got mine today - actually convinced after reading many posts on this board - but I am now scratching my head.
On initial power-up, windows wouldn't install. After a somewhat helpful tech guy, got to install itself after getting into recovery mode (F11 many times just after powering up btw).
Anyway noticed during the several boots, that a lot files were not being found; screen going by too fast to note down.
Windows did come up - connected to Internet etc., Then I decided to create rescue disk right away so that I could restore.
Thats when new problems started. Hung on me had to force power off.
On reboot, when I try to run again, now it says that resources are used - what the heck, I just restarted machine and clickd create RD as only job on system. Noticed disk light going on like crazy.
Where can I go to find some docs/problem solving on creating this RD? Right now, I just am frustrated and T61P is rapidly coming down in my estimation.

If you are on Vista and its sounds like drunk raccoons in the garbage, that's disk thrashing and completely normal...unfortuantely.

If its a whine, rattle, click, or the dreaded mechanical stutter gag, then its probably the HD and just thank the Lords of Kobol that you do back ups.
