    Is a 2.5 hour battery life time for an x61 normal??

    Hey guys, I just got my X61 and reinstalled windows XP (instead of Vista) on it. It estimates that I have a tad under 2.5 hrs of battery life on the laptop which is extremely dissapointing. I was under the impression that these laptops have great battery life--about two times that in fact. I am running a 2.0ghz cpu. 7200rpm 100gb HD and this battery life is while surfing the web only. Ideas??

    which battery do you have, if you have the 4 cell, then that sounds about right

    4 cell :(--what the heck is up with their "extremely long battery life" advertisements?? I had like 3.5 hours with my old dell :(. Crappo. What's the 8 cell like?

    you can get some pretty serious battery life with one if you have the 8 cell battery. i would say around 6 hours

    try zero brightness?

    my 13" Vaio I only trust for 2.5 hour.

    btw,if you wanted long battery life, you would have gotten the x61s. if you get the x61, you're probably someone who only wants it portable when you're lugging it around everywhere, but you're not planning on being portable where you sit down. I think most people who use a laptop use it plugged in, so the portability is actually in the weight, not in the battery longevity.

    Here are some things you can do-

    1)Take out the ultra-bay drive and put in an ultra-bay battery, ~$85.00
    2)Keep your 4 cell, but purchase additional 8 cells, probably two of them. ~100.00 a piece?

    This allows your X61 to stay light as possible, and you can decide how many spare batteries you want to take with you should you need to go completely unwired.

    On my X61s I get about <3 hours with my 4-cell slimline battery and light use.

    I get about 8-9+ hours under the same use with the 8-cell battery.

    The 4-cell slimline battery is meant for ultra light carry weight and size, not for incredible battery life.

    Vista has better battery management than XP. The Thinkpad battery manager is more accurate than the windows battery indicator.
