Does anyone know whether a 1440x900 display is available on a 15.4" ThinkPad R- or T- series?

I finally sifted thru all the cryptic acronyms for screen resolution (hopefully, that is)-

    On 14.1"- WXGA- 1280x800, WXGA+ 1440x900
    On 15.4"- WXGA- 1280x800, WSXGA+ 1680x1050
    On 15.4" T61p only- WSXGA+ 1680x1050, WUXGA+ 1920x1200

If those resolution specs are correct for those acronyms, then it appears that I can't get a 15.4" with 1440x900 resolution? Seems like a big jump from 1280x800 to 1680x1050. I wonder if a 14.1" with 1440x900 would be a better choice than 15.4" 1680x1050?

It's no wonder I stay confused most of the time....

You are correct, WXGA+ is not offer on the 15.4" ThinkPads. Screen resolution is such a personal preference. What's good for one person, doesn't work for another. I prefer SXGA+, but that won't work for everyone. The best thing to do is to go look at some screens. It can be tough because most stores only offer lower resolution screens. It helps if you know someone who has one.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks. She went for a surf on the Internet. Pretty soon, she came upon a website. She clicked and, when there was no 404, she loaded it right up.

On the product page, there were three options of screen resolution. Goldilocks was not blind. She looked at the screen from the first option.

"This resolution is too high!" she exclaimed.

So, she looked at the screen from the second option.

"This resolution is too low," she said.

So, she looked at the last option of screen resolution.

"Ahhh, this resolution is just right," she said happily and she gazed it all up.

What's best is really personal preference. I feel that WXGA is too low, WUXGA is too high, and WSXGA+ is just right for a 15.4" screen.

If you want to compare different screen sizes and ratios, look at the pixels per inch^2 (ppi). http://www.prismo.ch/comparisons/notebook.php

    14.1" - 1440x900 - 120.4 ppi
    15.4" - 1680x1050 - 128.6 ppi

Yeah, I went through this same search, hoping to find a 15.4" screen at 1440x900 that was not glossy. At the time, around 6 months ago, the only choice for that was the MacBook Pro. I ended up getting a non-widescreen 15" screen at 1440x1050, which in terms of DPI is basically the same as the 14.1 at 1440x900. Worked out well. For me the 128 DPI was too high a resolution.

My point isn't so much to throw a lot of numbers out there, but to second the notion that DPI is the thing to consider. You can go to a physical store or look at a friend's computer, etc., and even if the size isn't the same you can evaluate how the DPI feels to your eyes. Figuring out what DPI ratio you want is IMO the most important thing to decide about a new notebook--before size, vendor, specs, etc (in my opinion).

This is my biggest wish too, that Lenovo had a 1440x900 15.4" screen. Sadly, it is not the case. I think it would be the best compromise for me for web page viewing/image editing, and good text readability.

Oh well, just grab a WSXGA+ 1680x1050 and run it at 1440x900.

Sorry, I don't do the "fuzzy font" thing. With all due respect, it's native or nothing for me, which is why I grinned, bore it, and bought the WXGA model.
