My Z61t came w/ the UJ-842 And over the last couple of years I have tried various CDR's, DVD's etc. and several different programs but it seems that the one thing this drive does best is make coasters! What have others found w/ this drive?

matashiuta is the Panasonic drive, and anyone whom has used panasonic drive in Thinkpads know it is the one of the worst optical drive ever (it is not even suitable as a dvd-rom). This line of drive is plagued by so many problems it is not funny, and disc error is one of them. If i am you i would either replace this drive with the Hitachi-HL or a usb external dvd burner.

The only other drive that will work is the Hitachi-LG GSA-4083N. The part number is 39T2679. I had the UJ-850 on my 14" R60. It worked well for me.

I have an Hitachi GSA-U10N (39T2829) and it's a total piece of junk (or has very bad k3b compatibility).

I'll second that, it's a coaster machine if the machine gets moved even slightly, and is dirt slow.
