Nothing works right. It doesn't detect the model number, the driver lists rarely load... tons of links are broken... and it's been like this for months.

    Is there any hope?

Are you talking about the Drivers and Support website? I haven't had any issues with it. What browser are you using?

Keep in mind this is when I'm using an IBM and NOT a Lenovo.

    This site here:

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=HOME-LENOVO

If you click "Auto-detect this system", it goes to an old IBM page saying it has moved.

If you manually enter in the product number it DOES go to the site for that model, but if you click "downloads and drivers" and try to click anything in the dropdown (say, video for instance), it goes back to the main download page.

It does this with IE7 and IE8 on my work PC, home PC, and any IBM laptops that I restore.

Have no problem downloading the drivers whatsoever by following your steps. however i didnt see any option for auto detection of the system.

You may wanna try get a system update and update your driver.
