    Hi..

    I'm thinking of purchasing this Lenovo G50-70 ( Laptops New - Lenovo G50-70 Notebook PC - 4th Gen Intel Core i7 4500U - 4GB Memory - 500GB HDD - Intel HD Graphics - 15.6 HD Glare Display - Windows 8.1 - International Warranty - Model: 59415650 in Pakistan for Rs.57000.00 | Computer Zone) from here in Pakistan.

It is the cheapest i7 available but I can't find its reviews online.

If this is a good choice laptop for home use, can someone please recommend me:

-should I go with the default 5400rpm hdd or 7200rpm hdd or if ssd is blazing fast then I might go with it as well. The only thing I understand from reading about SSD is that they are faster and more secure. If they are indeed that much better then 5400/7200 rpm then I might consider purchasing a 240GB Kingston which costs around 150usd here.
If there isn't much difference for home users then I might go with the default 5400rpm

-should I go with the default 4GB ram or increase it to 8GB

-the screen is glare, am not sure how much different it will be from my current (official) T510 laptop screen. I've asked the store and they told me there is not much difference between anti-glare and the glare model of this laptop since its LED. I've no idea about it.

What's wrong with your T510? I don't see G50 being much of an upgrade unless you've got a specific need to run CPU intensive tasks and even then it won't be than much.

No point of having a laptop with i7. Not much improvement between that and i5 IMO. I purchased my y410p with i7 because it came with that during a deal so it was timing for me or else I would have gone with i5.

Like ZaZ mentioned, unless you are using your laptop for CPU intensive tasks then it is not worth it.

Also curious what's wrong with your T510?

T510 is my office laptop. Need one for home use...

there is only 50-100usd difference in i5 and i7 - so I guess its better to get i7..

If you're never going to use the processing power of the i7, you might as well get the i5 with an ssd.

    what about RAM..should I go with 4GB or 8GB?

8 GB for ram, that's pretty standard going on forward now.

SSD will give you noticeable loading speed booting into your OS (from restart and complete shut down), faster pm loading up webpages as your web browser will cache everything in SSD.

Overall, faster speed in loading up your programs and os.

Thanks man. I did some googling about ssd, its disadvantage shown as Then there’s the issue of longevity. The NAND flash used in SSDs can only be used for a finite number of writes. and some other technical jargon...which I don't really understand...

edit: is this something to be worried about?

BTW, which brand should I consider. I've checked that locally here in Pakistan not much variety is available-maybe because of high cost of ssd - might have to import which will further increase the cost :(

is there a website or something like this http://www.werlnet.net/the-fastest-best-solid-state-drives-ssd/ which shows the best options available

EDIT: BTW, I can't find G50-70 reviews online... if someone is using it, please share your experience. Thanks

No. Chances are you'll either be looking for a new computer or a bigger/faster SSD long before hitting the write limits.

I agree with the stated above.
Most probably you will die before the SSD.
On average we don't even fill our local storage once a year (and it is designed for much more...).
So, I wouldn't worry about the SSD.

On the other hand, if you do edit photos from time to time or do strenous compilations - it does not hurt to have the Core i7 on your side.
Currently there is a deal on the core i7, 8GB variant with 500GB HDD+8 GB SSD (hybrid).
I think it is a good deal for a total of $579.
Shipping I guess you can do with Shipito.
