Can I get a quality machine here or should I look on ebay?

    you mean the outlet store?

if yes, I say overall the outlet machine should be more reliable than the ebay ones. However, for any individual machine, it really depends on how lucky you are.

IBM certified used equipment is refurbished by flextronics.   while some systems look like they've survived corporate warfare, many arrive in good condition.   expect to see typical wear like a shiny keyboard and maybe even a few scuffs/scratches though.

whether that's better than ebay is difficult to say.   at least IBM offers a 7-day money-back guarantee and pays for return shipping.

Also a warranty. But pricing is typically higher of course and there is bound to be more confusion regarding the products specifications.

Do you mean like they may give me a different laptop than I order?

The example you gave is fraud where as confusion would be confusion over specifications.

Which is technically a different laptop I suppose. Just always keep a copy of the specifications you order (save the page of the laptop listing). There have been cases where they don't give you exactly the correct thing (like hard drive size...OS).

But sometimes people get lucky and get free upgrades ;).

is everyone here talking about the same thing?   lobbleton asked about "IBM refurbished" which can be found here, yet some seem to be talking about the lenovo outlet.

before we continue, let's make sure everyone is on the same page.

@lobbleton - which one are you inquiring about: IBM certified used equipment or lenovo outlet products?

Seem to me you can get just as good a deal at the Lenovo outlet or on Lenovo new systems with coupons.

Then you do not have to worry about the seller.

I wouldn't trust anyone with less than 7000 feedback and a 100% rating.

they're just a reseller.   they aren't linked to IBM or lenovo in any way outside of buying IBM/lenovo systems for resale on ebay.   their real name is "ebuy electronics" and they are located in brooklyn, new york.

there have been a few threads about them on NBR.   here is one of them: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=323657

I've seen sellers with high feedback and ratings pawn of refurbed as new. I don't know that that's a good barometer. eBay is a crapshoot. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't.
