Is IBM having supply issues with the 15" Flexview screen?

I ask this because on the employee friend and family purchase website I can't seem to find a single T60 on there with the 15" flexview... there are only two 15" configs even listed and they are the 1024x768 non-flexview models and don't have Core 2 Duo available, either, which I more or less insist on getting.

I went to the regular Lenovo website as a 'regular' consumer and saw that I was able to create this combination without a problem.

So my best guess is maybe they're having supply issues and so they don't offer Flexviews for their employee purchases - I know they used to because I got one in July with 15" flexview from the employee program, no problems.

Call them, they priced a flexview for me with EPP but the configuration I wanted was cheaper with the holiday special.

    http://forum.thinkpads.com/

This forum has much valuable information on thinkpads ;)

Basically, BOE, the manufacturer of the QXGA screens, was acquired by Hydis. As a result, Hydis withdrew funding niche markets, which the S-IPS screens (FlexView) fall under, and it is highly unlikey we will be seeing any of those in the future, hence no Flexview QXGA availibility on the Core 2 Duo machines.

The SXGA+ screens are manufactured by LG-Phillips, but as far as I know they are not offered on the Core 2 Duo machines.

In short, don't expect FlexView to be around for much longer :(

I configured a T60 with the flexview screen and ordered it on 11/15/2006 and it was shipped to me from HK on 11/30/2006.

Umm...the 1400x1050 flexviews are around and they aren't going anywhere.
2007-7JU is a pre-config with a Core 2 Duo and a flexview. As far as custom builds, when they started the sale they added the 1400x1050 flexview as an option to the T60p so that's an expansion of the flexview offerings.

Flexview isn't going ANYWHERE for a long time. Almost all highend LCD's these days are using the same principles, and are under different names from different places. PVA, IPS, etc. Phillips/LG who makes the 15" one specific to the T60 series doesn't have any supply problems, nor any phasing out planned.

Also want to say I ordered a 20077JU 15" T60 C2D with Flexview, and should be arriving tommorow.

You should have seen the nail biter I had Sunday. The **** thing didn't make it to my local UPS office until 2 hours before it went out for delivery. Most days, UPS flies packages transiting Louisville directly to Little Rock, then the plane continues to Shreveport, but they don't fly SDF-LIT-SHV on Sundays, only SDF-SHV, so they had to truck it to Little Rock, and thence to Springdale, which took freaking forever.

Early in the day, they were claiming the laptop wouldn't arrive until the 12th. Once they decided it would be the 11th after all, I made quick plans to go home and get it. ;) I drove in just behind the UPS truck and signed for the package. Good thing, too, I would have hated to have to go pick it up in the afternoon.

BTW, the WWAN is awesome! :D

I stand corrected then, the SXGA+ screens are still rolling, the QXGA is no longer an option though. SXGA+ is a little big for a 15" though.

I based my asumptions on the shorter lifespan of Flexview based on my understanding of BOE-Hydis's future plans for the market, and the general tendency to step away from S-IPS panels in laptops. I would like to see Flexview all over the place, but I honestly do think it's not going to be around in the current form much longer.

So it's safe to assume that there won't be any Flexview option on the T60 widescreen model?

They aren't planning a future around worse screens. There will be different technologies in the mix for wide viewing angles, and good contrast, just different name than ips.

    IPS
    S-IPS
    PVA

are you trying to imply those are all names for the same thing? not true, other than that they are all LCD panel types.

Similar underlying concepts of making a panel with wide view angles and good color reproduction. Basically what IBM called the "flexview" screens.

you are correct - the T60p 15" models are no longer available in the UK anymore - they have been quietly removed from lenovo's UK online store and resellers.

Does anyone know whether or not the new widescreen 15.4" T60 and T60p offer Flexview???

Searching in the online PSREF pdf for the above notes SXGA+ and WSXGA+ screens with 200 nits brightness and anit-glare... But nothing that actually states "Flexview display with wide viewing angle and high density using IPS technology" which is included in standard (non-wide) format 15" T60 and T60p models.

No, the widescreens are not flexview.
