I'm getting a docking port and wondering about the DVI support of the Advanced mini docking port vs the Port replicator.

According to one of the sales reps in a PC store, DVI is useful for people doing graphics work but not much for basic office applications.

Any truth to this? What are the advantages of having an external monitor with DVI support?

If you use a CRT, there is no reason to have DVI. DVI is used for LCDs, image quality is better because the signal is not converted to analog then back to digital, as it is when using VGA and an LCD. For base office applicatons, depends how picky you are, some say they see noticeably sharper text, etc with DVI.
