I'm in the process of getting a new laptop. I'm leaning towards getting a higher capacity ssd. I know that I can always get the 160gb intel. I'm wondering about the samsung.

Be aware that the Samsung SSDs Lenovo is selling do not support TRIM, because of the custom firmware. I tried to flash a different FW from Corsair, OCZ or Mushkin, but I was not able to do so.
The INTELs do support TRIM, though.

But is it a good deal?

BTW, they have a firmware update on samsung's website that will enable trim support.

If he still has them at this price, I know where you can get one for $380....PM me if you want it.

if that firmware is only for 2.5" SSDs then it won't work.   lenovo only offers 1.8" SSDs.

    I tried this one too.
    It does NOT work

    And there it doesn't mater if it is a 2.5" or a 1.8" - I have both!
All OEM-Samsung SSDs are a royal pain in the arse.

    They have garbage Collection, though.

At $440, it's decent, but at $380 is a good deal. While Samsung might not be the best for performance, it's no slouch for overall performance and still is the best for low power consumption and cost/performance.
