The CPU fan on my T42 never shuts down. The fan is fairly noisy: I hear it humming and accelerating every 10 seconds.

Is it normal for it to behave this way. What is your experience? (with any T series notebook's fan)

Can you suggest a quieter fan?

And my CPU is P-M 1.7 Ghz. Graphics Card: ATI 7500 32 Mb. Screen: XGA
Memory: 256 mb (could more memory cool the CPU?)

I am plugged in and my CPU speed is set to "adaptive". (lowering it does not help)

[ :(!]I could put the computer away and leave it idle, but the fan will not get any more quiet.[V]

Yes, does this mean something beyond [ :D]

For the twenty minutes after the computer boots the fan is quiet. Then the fan kicks in as CPU heats and there is no stopping it.

Do you have the same problem[?]
