Okay, there seems to be a huge lag when surfing webpages and I can't figure out why.

    First what it's not
it's not a virus or spyware,
I removed norton and it had no effect
DSL speed is fine, only this computer is effected
Same issue on both IE and Firefox so it's not the browser

So the question is what could be causing the problem? it loads pages especially secure pages very slowly, streaming video is choppy for longer clips, yet older slower computers have no problems.

I'd prefer avoiding a restore or clean install.

Any input that might give me a clue what's causing this is welcome.

Does it only happen over wireless? - If you connect a network cable, is it still a problem?

Also, to narrow down the issue, you could try making a Linux distro CD and booting from that. If the surfing is still slow then it's either a hardware problem with your laptop, or a problem with your router.

Might want to update your router's firmware if available.

It appears to be wireless in nature. I haven't hit any slow down when I'm directly connected to the gateway.

I'll try taking the computer over to my office, I have a linksys router there set with identical settings, so that will tell me if the problem is router side or computer side.

As for linux distro, i'm not all that familiar with Linux. I've set up linspire on a computer once, but that's it.

okay, I updated the firmware and the drivers, but still have a slow down.

After some testing with another thinkpad on the same router I have determined the following.

Https:// websites load significantly slower on the this machine vs. the old computer.

But pages like myspace, msn or others load faster on this machine.

So what could be causing the slow down of secure sites?
