I am getting conflicting info on this. The australian sales line today assured me that Thinkpads (purchased in Australia) come with an International warranty. Maybe so although I am not 100% convinced.

Does anyone know the situation with US purchased Thinkpads. I know in the past some models were and some were not. I also see that the Tabook pdf mentions international warranties (for example T410s p. 60).

The above link enables you to enter a model number but I cant make much sense of this. Can anyone shed some light on the above topic? Thanks.

In the US all thinkpads are NOT covered by international warranty. Certain models as you said and I haven't heard of CTO orders ever qualifying.

If I had a custom order from Lenovo Canada, would I have trouble using the warranty from a US address or extending the warranty from Lenovo US?

What does CTO stand for? I see my order is for a 4313CTO but I don't know what it means.

    Thanks!

Configure To Order or, in other words, a (somewhat) unique configuration.

I have two CTO Thinkpads purchased in the US qualify for service in China. Just look up the model number on the IWS page and it will tell you what countries you can get service.

Interesting. Which ones? Warranty look up isn't working for me right now...

I think the situation might have changed. A few days ago i had a look at some T410 & W510 models offerd by Lenovo-USA, and they now were all serviceable in europe.

That's good. I wish they just all had standard IWS, heh.

many CTO models are covered by IWS.   coverage is based on the machine type, not the model number.

for example, of an X301 built online, one would end up with an MTM of 2776-CTO.   if you check the 2776 machine type in the IWS lookup, you'll see it's covered.

being a CTO doesn't matter because the parts are available worldwide whether they be from a TopSeller, pre-configured, or CTO model.

    FYI. ;)

if the unit was built as a CTO and sold to you in Canada, you'll be able to get warranty service in the US as long as it is covered by IWS.

regarding migrating the system from Canada to the US and changing the warranty location, you should be able to do that, too.   to be 100% certain, please call the warranty upgrade department and inquire.   i'm not up on current warranty policies.

the number can be found here:

Australian Thinkpads have one of the largest coverage for international warranties... i.e. it is covered in much of Europe, Asia, North America.... however same can't be said for North American counterparts..... but then again they pay only half as much in most situations for the same laptop, they shouldn't complain either.

to look up the IWS, you just need the 4 digits of the Type number i.e. 8932, etc.

My W500 4058CTO purchased in Manhattan had an international warranty as well. I took advantage of it at least 3 or 4 times in the first year in Pakistan, England, and Scotland.
