I am looking to buy a 1.8" SSD like the one attached which is bare, without a protective enclosure.
I would like to install this in a X61 which has a regular 2.5" drive compartment.
So I need a 1.8" enclosure and a 1.8" to 2.5" adapter (i.e. like FRU 42W8019, see attached) or a 2.5" all-in-1 enclosure which can protect the 1.8" drive as well as accommodate a micro SATA to SATA adapter.
I haven't managed to find a solution yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Preferably a link to an eBay listing.
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the link, Nando
Out of all the options in that thread, I believe the options which could fit the bill would be:
1.8 to 2.5 Drive Adapter w/ 3.3v support (Micro-SATA to SATA) [1.8-2.5CONVERTER3.3] - $38.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
or
1.8 - 2.5 Drive Adapter 3.3v support (MicroSATA to SATA)Black [SATA-MICROSATA3.3] - $35.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
Still not sure how well it would protect a naked SSD, as I imagine it could be a bit wobbly
Do you have any references to a 1.8" enclosure which would make the naked SSD look like a normal one like below?

What does using a 1.8" SSD get you, if you need to adapt it to the 2.5" slot? Why not get a 2.5" SSD from the start? It would seem they would be cheaper and/or have more capacity for the price than a 1.8" version.

I'm confused. If you're buying this to put in an x61 why don't you just get FRU 42W8019 as it's designed for this purpose. I use this adapter with a 1.8" Samsung SSD in my x200T and erik uses the same adapter with the same SSD in his x61s.
EDIT - Do you mean that you have a 1.8" SSD with bare flash chips and NO metal around it at all? How did you manage to fall into one of those? -

Yes, I am talking about a 1.8" SSD with bare chips and circuits as pictured. -
Judging from that picture, you're looking to get the bare bone drive on ebay, am I right?
I was in the same boat (got a bare bone 256GB for $200), and the adapter 42W8019 works just fine.

Not from eBay, but a from another cheap source I have not purchased it yet, as I wanted to find a viable adapter solution first.
When using the 42W8019 adapter, is it not rubbing against the circuits or small chips on your bare SSD? Could you possibly post a picture of your setup? -
There's no scratching involved, since the adapter is made of plastic. Plus the SSD doesn't have any connector along the edge, so you're safe. I am currently using the drive, so don't really want to take it out just to take a picture. Hope you understanding.

Hey guys. Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm trying to get a 128GB Samsung SSD from a new Lenovo system to work on my MacBook Pro or Mac Mini, but neither system recognizes the drive installed in any way. My T60p recognizes the drive just fine. Do I need to do something to make it work in my Macs internally?
I found this adapter that says it has built-in support for 3.3v and 5v. Is that what I need?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!
