Interested in the Y500, can you answer my questions?

I may need a new laptop sooner rather than later, so I've been doing research, and for the specifications with the current Winterdeal Lenovo is throwing, the Y500 is looking very attractive ($899.99 after savings model).

I do use a wireless keyboard and mouse 50-70% of the time right now, I'm a little worried about the touchpad and keyboard issues (It seems that these are hardware issues, and not software issues?). For those who already own a Y500, do the aforementioned problems bug you enough to make you resent your purchase?

I also want a laptop that's going to last around 4-5 years under moderate use (wont be gaming on it too much, mostly multitasking schoolwork and tv). It sounds like the Y500's design was sacrificed for the great hardware inside. With your best judgement, do you think it can last this long?

It will last you a long time assuming that you get one that works perfectly. I got mine that works brilliantly. It plays the casual games the screen and jbl makes TV look just epic. The only thing that you will be comprising is a good battery life and Customer support. As for how the it weighs. For me it is alright.

    Thanks!

Do you know, or know where I could find out, the defective rate of the model? I know it is artificially inflated when you check the forums because the most vocal are going to be those who love or hate it. I'm not to worried about battery life, and customer support doesn't matter unless it is a specific Lenovo issue (which I guess would be the touchpad/keyboard).

I am also considerign the Y500. If you are not interested in the higher performance of the 650M SLI I would recommend the Y580 instead.
