    Hey guys,

I really like x1 Carbon because of it size and portability. I got couple of questions about the machine

Which part is user upgrade-able? SSD? Ram? etc.

I'm also consider using the laptop to do some power hungry task like gaming. I was wondering about using the mini-display port to get that extra performance when i need it. Any recommendations on what I could get for the MDP? If that is even possible.

    Nothing is user upgradable.

It is not designed to be a game machine.

Mini DisplayPort has nothing to do with performance, other than it is a high speed digital connection to a display device.

If you are looking for a gaming machine, I would recommend looking elsewhere or waiting to see if the coming Haswell chipset is decent in ultrabook class machines.

I love my X1C, but have to agree with Thor that it doesn't sound like the right computer for your needs.

Perhaps you might want to consider the T430s with NVIDIA graphics. It's basically fully user upgradable and fairly portable too.

I heard somewhere that the Mini display port can be hooked up to eGPU and ssd might be replaceable (1.8")

Well sadly, you are mistaken. An eGPU can be hooked up via Thunderbolt, which happens to have the exact same physical connector as mini Displayport. However, the X1C does not offer a Thunderbolt port.

The SSD is proprietary SSD form factor. There are no replacement SSD's available apart from the original ones.

It is NOT proprietary unless you think Apple is working with Lenovo because the MacBooks use the same proprietary format.

It is not a widely available format but that might change over time.

Several companies make them but not available retail.

    The Apple one is proprietary.

They both look the same, but the Apple one uses a proprietary pin layout.

They both are proprietary and not swappable one for the other. Sorry.
