I'm getting some choppiness in a movie just now, and I see that Intel's igfxsrvc.exe is taking up an entirety of 30-50% of my CPU. Considering that my computer isn't too shabby.

Is there an excuse for it to take up so much CPU, and if not, can I disable it in any way?

It's a, kind of a bug, related to the Intel's Graphics tray app in the systray. In MSConfig > Startup > Uncheck everything related to igfx.

    Will do, then. Thanks.

Just to sate my curiosity: Would you happen to have a link to a write-up regarding this weird bug-as-feature?

Erm, try searching on Intel's site. Its a very old issue, and I think I saw a troubleshooting article on intel's site which stated to disable the couple of startup items related to the extra goodies (like Hot-Keys, etc) installed with the Intel GMA driver.

There's a good amount of posts out there regarding this. Just disable the task from Startup.

And this issue seems to surface from the latest driver (the newest switchable graphics driver in my case). The previous driver revisions have been fine.

yes, this is a driver issue. Had it, done with it.

It is because when you update the driver with switchable graphics, what happens is the lenovo switchable drivers get uninstalled, and then MS OS, automatically installs intel drivers. Then the update on top of this installs switchable graphics drivers. So, you could imagine there is a clash for resources when two services "igfxsrvc.exe" try to start. One starts, the other wants to start as well, but it checks for existing "igfxsrvc.exe" in the memory. It is already there - thanks MS. But since this is a critical service it continues to try to start... which consumes your CPU cycles, and kills you battery efficiency. Thanks again, MS.

What you have to do is uninstall the switchable graphics drivers. Reboot, MS OS finds and installs the intel drivers. You go to device manager uninstall the installed intel driver - and only then you go and install your new switchable graphics drivers.

    I had them here :

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update\session\7vd537ww_v64"

because I am using this ms 64 bit os...which is too much...

Enough is enough. Every single time, there is this monkey business with MS going under the table. If you don't experience it, it means you are not digging deeply.

I am already in the process of switching to linux, which is another evil, but if you get it working - it simply works!

Back again - as is the problem. What exactly do you uninstall - and how? The Intel graphics card, or also the ATI card? And in doing so, uninstalling by Add/Remove or right-clicking on it using Device Manager?

Do you know what will happen, if I clean up the entire Session folder? I'm having some other potentially driver-related issues, and I'd like to take the opportunity to clean up the default and automatic driver destination if possible.

I've just formated and want to get this right: Is there any order you should install the intel and switchable graphics drivers in? Or does it not matter which of the two you install first?
