I have a Lenovo y560 I looked up my processor online and came across some information that it's a "High-end" mobile i7 processor of the 1st generation. That was enough satisfy me but I done more research on the GPU (ATI MOBILITY RADEON 5730) and getting reports that it's enough to play games on good frames in mid-high settings. I thought that was okay considering I don't game hard.
It got me thinking, is the CPU too good for the GPU? or just about right for each other? I was just wondering because I would monitor my CPU for playing some intensive games and only using up 25% usage at most while GPU, at times, drops some frames (probably around 45 from 60 fps).

most games now days are more GPU intensive, this is why the demand on CPU has decreased over the years.
-
i don't think you can compare CPUs and GPUs that way.
-
Would shifting my GPU to high performance override the application settings set by my games? I want my games to run better and look great, but I'm I going to see a drop in visuals even though I set "X" game into high settings than before?
-
the CPU usage being stuck at 25% is probably because the game can only use up to 2 cores/threads (each one being 12.5% for your processor, since it has 4 cores and HT).

The GPU will be the bottleneck and as lead_org said, most games don't need a speedy CPU. If you want more performance, overclocking the GPU is the way to go.
Edit: I should have been a little more helpful. If you do want to overclock, you might want to try with this: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1128/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.9.8.html Should work for most AMD GPU's. Finding a the threshold of the clocks speeds with come down to trail and error as every GPU has different tolerances. -

The last time I checked, the 5730 is a midrange card, which means that you shouldn't be expecting to play the latest games at high settings anyways. Most games do not use that much CPU power.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
5730 is an overclocked 5650.
Certain games like Civ 5, SC2, GTA4 benefit from more cores.
Intel i7 740qm CPU on par with ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 5730?
